a good rinsing in warm soapy water to get the chunks off is fine.  no need to boil or PC them because that will happen next time you use them

If you're just cleaning the jars to reuse or store them, you don't need to PC them. Just load in the dishwasher or wash by hand with warm soapy water.

Next time you load them with substrate, of course, you'll PC them and sterilize any remaining bugs.

Maybe we're misunderstanding each other.

Are you saying that you PC your jars when you're cleaning them and then you PC your jars again when you load them with substrate? If so, I assure you it's overkill. One hour at 15 PSI will kill everything in and on your jars. There's no need to do it twice.

well if you just let it sit there for a week there could be growth. this is after you birth your cake but before you inoculate and do all that good stuff.

also i have a question, is it better to leave the tin foil on the jars while incubating or off? i heard that the mycelium network needs O2 to grow. If the holes are covered then it will be harder for O2 to get in. The first time i grew i covered them. I have not grown since.

I like to use the foil and no tape over the holes. It seems to let enough air in, and I have had no contams in the jars yet.

you need to PC the jars with the substrate in it to sterilize the substrate as well as the jars.If you are just storing the jars a simple washing will do till you are ready to use them.
