How can you speed drying?
    #1790502 - 08/07/03 10:21 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Okay heres my promblem my gerbil just harvested about 8 wet ounces of cambodian of two pint cakes five days ago this was the largest harvest yet superceding my expectations; however, my gerbil's dessication chamber is to small to handle this.

fan dryed for 12hours then dessicated for 12 then reapeated that process for two days. after that they've been in the chamber for three days now. They're almost dry now but my gerbil's needs to make room for more mushies until he can build a bigger chamber to dry larger qunatities. Also the gerbil would like to dispense his grow tommorow.

Anyway my gerbil was wondering if their was a way to speed the drying of his current harvest up so it would be ready by tommorow?

The gerbil was also wondering if anyone has ever simply just used ordinary table or sea salt and dried theeir shrooms that way. Also if their was any noticalbe loss in quality this way?

Any input would be greatly appreciated :-} My gerbil thanxs you too.

I don't think speeding it up so that they are ready for tomorrow is possible without applying heat, which can possibly denature (sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology here) one of the active substances in the shroomies. The exact thing is somewhere on this board posted by someone.

But my question for you is, why are you bothering drying them if you are going to "dispense" (eat?) them tomorrow, just eat em fresh, knowing that mushies dry down to about 10-15% of their original weight?

lol... ok well maybe buy a food dehydrator, like 30-40 bucks, worth it, dries em in like 24 hours most of the time. I recommend the American Harvest one, it has a setting of 95 degrees (hot summer day) so it won't noticeably do anything bad to your mushies. And prob don't talk about selling anything here, drawing attention to that is not too bright considering Ashcroft is a dickhead from hell.

U need a Molecular Sieve Absortent, or Dessicant. This is tiny beads that pull the water from the shrooms. Just put it in a box, lay a screen on top and then shrooms . Leave it a full day. U can get this at some hardware stores,,,,,,,,it is even reusable just set the beads in the sun to evaporate the water out of them.

Ahhh my bad... why would you store them already dry in salt? Maybe I still don't get you, you want to like cure them like a fish? I would probably not do that, I don't see why that would be preferable to desiccant.

if your gerbil is dispensing by tommorrow why even worry about drying them? it would be in your gerbil's best interest cuz the excess water would make the merchandise weigh more...one need only make them cracker dry if one were planning to preserve the specimens for long term storage...

some people  like to have a suppyly   in case there is a time when they r unable to grow or something.. maybe they are just growing for their own consumption... dry ones take up less space and they can last a long time without goin bad.

Blowing out the window with a fan and then dessicating with damp-rid works. Just fan-dry them out hte window first for like 24 hrs....

Don't sell mushies wet or they could rot. I had this problem before when I used to sell.

dessicant is probably better because it drys them faster.. without losing as much potency.

Dude heres an idea, leave the mushies in the drying chamber till they're dry, start fan drying the other mushies, eat some mushies, and give some mushies away!

i once saw plans for a drying chamber labled as "the borg" it involved three connected chambers that had a fan blowing from the top chamber down on the mushies in the bigger middle chamber, through the supportive grate holding the mushies, into the bottom chamber with a small bowl of silica gel in it. there was also a set of hoses that connected the bottom chamber back to the top, therefore recirculating the drier air to the fan and drying the mushies cracker dry in a day. it also cut out the oxygen a bit, preventing the breakdown of psilocybin.

that might work...
