I just got my first skydive under my belt a few hours ago! I've been trying to do it for months, but the weather in Washington just doesn't like to cooperate. Finally, today, I was able to do it! I did my first jump of my Static Line Progression. IT WAS FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Holy shit. I am utterly addicted.
This is EXACTLY what I just did...
For those of you who haven't ever done it. DO IT!!!
For those of you that have, got any tips and/or cool stories?

Just watching this almost gave me a panic attack
looks so awesome!!
how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?
Also, you seem like you've probably been to Smith Rock
my brother is really into rock climbing too and he does that high elevation slack lining too.
nucking futs

The whole course is around $2500, but I'm just paying as I go. You have to get 25 successful jumps under your belt in order to get your license. I say "successful jumps" because the instructor gives you a pass/fail grade, and if you fail, you have to repeat that jump. I actually haven't been to Smith YET! I'm new to the PNW, but that is incredibly high on my list. I WILL walk Monkey Face! That line is beautiful!

monkey face is the shit! I tripped with my brother at the top after we hiked up there
and he has pictures of himself doing the monkey face slack line
apparently some people just photographed him and shouted out accross the rocks asking his e-mail mid-walk and then they sent them to him a week later haha
I did a route at smith that was like 99% buckets and it still scared the shit out of me
Welcome to the PNW, you will love it here

Congrats! If you love it now just wait until you get past the static line stage! I only did static line jumps in the Marines. Even after all of these years I still remember my very first free fall without being strapped to another person. I only had to do two tandem jumps before I went onto supervised solo jumps. Nothing else like it. I dare say it is even better than sex. Not many people will admit that but it's true. The only thing that comes close to the feeling of free fall is when you use a wing suit. I've been skydiving for almost 20 years now and will keep doing it until the day I die.
If you don't mind me asking how many of your 25 jumps have you completed? How much are you paying for each jump? Do they offer group discounts (for jumps)? What's the minimum number of people they'll take up? What's the length of time they give you to make all of your jumps? Back when I was getting my USPA A-license (I have a C-license now) they gave me a year to complete my 25 jumps after completing all of the required classroom time. What's the name of your instructor? (If you don't want to broadcast his/her name please pm me because I might know him/her. I know tons of skydivers on the west coast.) Is he/she also your jump master?
I'm always looking for new places to skydive at. Twice now I've had the opportunity to jump from the New River Gorge bridge in West Virginia during their Bridge Day event. First time was years ago and I did jump on that occasion. Sad thing was one guys chute didn't open and he hit the water spread eagle. They only recovered pieces of him. The second time I got the chance to jump there I wasn't able to because one week before I blew my right knee out and they wouldn't let me jump. They said it was a safety thing. Said I wouldn't be able to land correctly on land and wouldn't let me land in the river because they thought I might drown before any of the safety divers could get to me. The river was higher and faster than normal that year. Didn't matter to them that I had training to swim with both of my legs tied together.

Things are going well! Progression is going right along. My 7th jump is on Sunday. It'll by me 2nd jump where I get free fall and pull my own ripcord. I got my first free fall/real ripcord on St. Patty's! It was incredible. My next jump is a 10 second delay. I'll climb out, hold onto the wing, let go, and count to 10 (1 one thousand, 2 one thousand), then pull my ripcord.

Just don't forget to count correctly. If you do your instructor can give you a "fail" grade on that jump making you do it over. Good luck and have a blast.

God damn that's so intense. Great video. This might be the year that I finally sky dive. I did a gorge swing that have me something like 4 seconds of free fall and I loved it but this is some next level shit. I've been meaning to so it forever.

Wow...the price for the course has really skyrocketed since I took it, 38 years ago! Back then we were using shit equipment by comparison to today's standards. Re-purposed military chutes with a sock added to dampen the jolt a bit, shitty helmets, shitty boots. The only thing that seemed the same was the plane.
Jumped in Lakewood, New Jersey...don't know if they do it there anymore. Got hurt one day - long story - and never went back.
When my dad found out he said to me "Only two things fall out of the sky - bird shit and fools."
