Snitching in drug culture

A friend and I are having a debate. He got taken like the naive fool he is for a bit of money by an online drug dealer. This drug dealer, however, was not nearly careful enough and a bit of googling comes up with his real name, address, facebook page, and other personal/family clearly connected to his online drug business. This seller seems like just a normal blue collar guy making some money on the side by vending.
My pissed off friend wants to anonymously rat the guy out to the guy's local police with all the evidence they need to prove his illegal activity.
I on the other hand tell him to just chalk the money up to the risks of buying drugs, and move on.
What do you guys think? Ya, the guy was an asshole and selectively scammed, but is getting taken for a couple hundred bucks worth potentially putting this guy in prison for years and breaking up his home for his wife and baby girl? I think people involved in drug culture would just say you know the risks when buying and forget about it, but my buddy wants justice. I just don't know if I would feel good about ruining someones life over a couple hundred dollars.
-edit, I convinced him to at least ask for a refund before considering snitching, so hopefully this guy replies.

not giving him potential prison time.

Don't be a rat.
It's only a couple hundred bucks, it's not like he sold you poison or anything like that, not worth ruining this guy's life. Besides your friend made the choice to buy illegal drugs on the internet, he should've known the risks.

If you fuck people over, I have no sympathy for you getting snitched on. I don't know that I would get him in legal trouble, but I certainly wouldn't hold it against someone for doing so. Don't screw people over, and maybe bad things won't happen to you.

I didn't vote because there should be a third option of contacting the guy personally, whether that be on the phone or confronting him. If it was so easy to find him, than ask the guy about it.

ya i convinced my friend not to jump the gun and at least talk to the guy and give him ample opportunity to make this right so we can all forget about it.
i guess i can kinda see why my friend is raging, but then again if you are selling quantity on the internet and choose to fuck people over, theres a chance those people are going to try to fuck you back.

You don't snitch on a dealer.
But scammers = thieves
I have no sympathy for thieves.
If he scams me for 100$, I won't snitch on him. If he scams me for 1000$, that little fucking thief needs to pay. The point of a successful scam is to not be IDed. If I figure out who the scammer is, all bets are off.
Fucking thieves need to realize tat what they do is wrong. Even if it means to pay with years of their lives.
I would however find other options before sending the cops after him. I would check if a buddy of mine feels like swinging a baseball bat.
Fucking thieves...

your friend should take it as a lesson to wise up on how to properly do a drug deal or realize he is inept at it and quit while he's ahead.

these risks you keep mentioning are not exclusive to the drug trade, or the online drug trade.

I wasn't advocating violence or even snitching, so calm down from what? I didn't so much as suggest your friend do anything, just that I wouldn't have sympathy for this dealer if he did
What does it being or not being a felony have to do with anything? Trying to screw someone over is trying to screw someone. Whether the amount is a big deal is up to your friend.
Your aren't the OP, my bad. But still, my point stands.

I think it would be very unwise for your friend to speak to police and potentially incriminate himself or others. It sounds like a lot of risk for an unknown result.
I think the police should regulate civil disputes, but prohibition makes it impossible in cases like this. Too much risk even getting involved with police.

oh, i assumed your lack of sympathy was equivalent with agreeing with the decision.

thats what i said, idk how anonymous an anonymous tip is, although my friend has way less to lose than someone moving quantity internationally.

Agreed. The guy stole money. Why should he have any right or expectation to not be retaliated upon? I'm not the type to usually do anything about something like that, I'd just cut my losses and never do business with this person again. But if this guy wants to get him into legal trouble with the cops, I don't care the slightest bit. Don't steal from people.
