Making a laminar flow grid with window blinds?

Typically laminar flow hoods use really thick filters to achieve laminar flow. This construction uses a grid to direct the air:

Could you make something like that with a grid of two perpendicular layers of window blinds then put a less expensive, thinner filter behind it?

It really about filtration. Cheaper filters will not deal with the lower micron contaminates. It is a balance between filtration and laminar flow, neither are exclusive. If I had to choose though I would go with filtration over laminar if that makes sense.

I don't think you'll get get close to actual laminar flow using window blinds or cheap plastic grids.
I'd take laminar flow over filtered air though.
Post results if you do experiment with it.

If a HEPA filter is up to spec it should filter the same size particles out regardless of the thickness.

You'd rather have dirty laminar air than clean turbulent air???
Clean turbulent air actually works surprisingly well. The flowbag link in my sig completely disregards the laminar aspect and works great.
If the air is dirty it doesn't matter how laminar it is. You're going to contam.
The main thing I'm worried about with window blinds is that they're not straight, they're curved slightly so that they're self supporting. This might reduce their effectiveness in straightening out the air.

^^^^That is what I was getting at. Clean air is much better than laminar. With that said though I am not sure how you achieve it with a cheaper filter.

Air cleanliness with a cheap filter is easy. You can get a filter, fan, power supply and everything for $40 in one of those cheapo holmes "HEPA-type" air purifiers. They work great for flow bags and they're not even exactly "HEPA".
The tedious part is getting the air to go in straight lines.
