You can take psychs and lose it for a moment in time and still be alive. You also lose your ego anytime you do something unconsciously.

You don't need an ego if you don't need to function. If there is no you to you? Do you have an ego at that time. Perhaps under heavy sedation we have no ego. People survive anesthesia all the time.

People with small egos tend to be jealous and insecure. People with large egos tend to be arrogant and inconsiderate. The ideal mental state is without jealousy, insecurity, arrogance and hubris.

I recall somewhat vaguely that people with big egos are usually more successful. The mechanics or nuances I haven't looked into. There is probably a multitude of benefit from having a "healthy" self esteem.

Jealous and insecure?
With almost no ego you realize that you are no different than anyone else You see yourself in everybody else, the good and the bad.
How can you be jealous on yourself? (if everybody is like yourself)
Insecure doesn't fit either, since you don't care about what other people think about you when you have little ego You just live in the now.
It is the ego that holds us back , so we don't dare to dance, sing or whatever it is that we don't dare because we may look 'ridiculous' to others
Searching for a job with no ego can be a bit of a challenge though, but once you have a job it isn't hard working with little ego.
Another thing is, once you remove the ego you feel love for everything, which is the opposite of greed and jealousy.
There is no such thing as no ego, if you have no ego you're dead, but it is possible to remove almost all ego, it just gets rebuilt slowly for most people.
It is also our ego that wants to be better than anyone else/have status/be something important With no ego, you realize that you're no better than anyone else and likely that money doesn't matter, happiness is the only thing that matters. So nothing to be jealous of.
After removing my ego once, I realized that the more I own the more unhappy I will be, due to the fear of losing it and that I will chose career from what makes me happy, even if the pay is 1/3 of what I got before, I don't care about money/status as much any longer.
After egodeath I found I was more aware of my ego, I still have plenty of ego sometimes, but I can now see where it tries to take control over me - and correct it right after it does or before. It is possible to keep it completely down for many months sometimes, or maybe even permanently - try to do that by seing the positive in everything and realizing that I am no better/worse than anyone else.

I think Mark Twain said it best -
To succeed in life, you need two things: ignorance and confidence.

Big ego = more successful in the corporate world, and as an employeer
makes good sense
the most successful businessmen are often those who don't care about others much, and don't care about their employees. it is also much easier to get hired with a big ego.
little ego = more values in life than working, and can be hard to keep a work, so not very successful with working
the ego is clever, it can make you appear happy, but it is a mask we put on once you feel happy every day, you found your true self. true self is without much ego for most people big ego is greed/jalousy/money/being better than others, all the things they teach in school.
it doesn't matter what you work with, as long as you're happy each day.
* this is all much too general, there are many exceptions to this not all businessmen are greedy or egoistic etc.

I don't believe in a true self or any concrete self. Read the works of Thomas Metzinger and his theory that the self dosn't exist.
