Proxy servers are just computers In lay mans terms and in this case, they are computers that people can travel through to see the internet.
Why would you want to do this?
Becuase when you go to a website, chances are your IP address is logged (your IP address is a number that your ISP gives your computer when you surf the net). Well, when you go to websites, they will record your IP address. This isn't good when you go to some sites becasue if you're doing something "questionable" like posting on drug related sites and the DEA want to find you, they can look you up by your IP address.
Now an anonymous proxy server doesn't record your IP address so you're not recorded anywhere
How do I use proxy servers?
Well, not too long ago you had to configure your web browers and find new proxy servers... it was a pretty daunting task.
Now there are programs that will do it. One that I reccomend is called Steganos Internet Anonym 5 - found here - http://www.steganos.com
Its very easy to use, read more about it here - http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1
I hope that helps.

Also, if you want to do it the "old fashioned way", a nice list of public proxies (some anonymous, some not-so-anonymous) can be found Here!

zippoz, where are you connecting to the internet from?
Home, college dorm, public library?
How many times did you try to get to the shroomery using that program? Many proxy servers do have restrictions, its not uncommon to get a "This website is forbidden" page.
Thats when you move on through another proxy server.
I'm on a dial-up connection and there are quarks with the proxy servers, not the program. When I go to some website the pictures on the page won't load (some proxy servers restrict files with certain extensions like .jpg .bmp etc..
As far as setting up your AIM account.... thats a tough one. I walked away from AOL years ago. They're horrible. AOL is known to restrict some sites by default which in my opinion is crap!
Tell me where you're connecting from and hopefully I can help you out.

Webwasher seems ok, easy to install and use...anyone familiar with this, i.e., is it ok? Seems fine to me, anyway.
