casing layer one week to colonize?
    #1786856 - 08/06/03 10:50 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Thought it was more like 2 to 5 days. I know it's not all supposed to be colonized just bits and pieces. When the tin foil is peeled back from the casing edge only a few bits of mycelium are shooting up. Was it cased too early or is it too wet? It's all good according to the faqs. Just wondering what's taking so long. Should it be birthed or left to continue colonizing and be patched for more even flush? Cased with 60/40 coco coir/verm. colonizing on 50/50 poo straw with just poo top layer.

it should take about that, depending on how thick your casing layer is and if you go back and patch it.

it's a small caing so the caing layer is about 1/4 inch thick and no patching has been applied since so little had poked up. When the sides are inspected there is some small threads soaring up but the rest looks about the same. Is this decieving to the eye and underneath all is well or should extra time be allowed to colonize?

your going to want to wait until most of the top is colonized before you expose it to light. its best if you leave it in a warm spot and forget about it for a few days and surprise yourself. it's hard but you have to be patient.

waiting is fine. In no hurry for much of anything. So if it takes two weeks that's fine, if it takes three that's fine? as long as it is well colonized and patched for an even flush?

sounds good, just be patient and let it be until the mycelia begin to poke up through the top dung layer, patch case when needed. One week is a little short anywho.
