Simple FP inspired Flow Hood for low, low cost!

After reading some posts here of flow hood projects I figured I would contribute my recent project for you all.... This is my return to mycology and the first piece of equipment I decided to acquire/build.
I ended up getting a blower that was rated at 700 cfm a .09" static pressure so yes its a big boy. I got this blower for a real deal. I fitted a variable speed control to it and used the fine tune adjustment to get a really nice laminar flow. I literally just got done testing the flow with a stick of incense, and the results are excellent! I checked the smoke entry from the sides and there is none that penetrated the inner areas of the flow. I then placed the stick down stream to see the laminar effect and it carried the smoke on a horizontal plane for about 3 feet. As I said this blower is huge for this filter but one benefit is that I can turn the wheel down to its almost lowest setting and the motor only whispers and makes very little noise while delivering plenty of power.
The cabinet I build for the filter was very snug, and as a matter of fact the outside corner on the left side wouldnt pull in tight while finishing the construction. I sealed everything so I am sure this will provide me with 99.99% clean air like its supposed to! I really couldnt be more happy with the results of my flow hood build.
The cost is as follows.
Filter $60 shipped to me blower $80 shipped to me Variable speed switch $ 13 shipped to me plywood 3/8 4x8 sheet $35 Screws,Caulk, adhesive $30 Power cord $10 Time to build 8 hrs
Grand total: $228!

I will use this very soon!

sweet build! I gotta do this soon.... been not using a flowhood for too long, and it gets expensive and annoying with oust spray all over me and in the air!
-------------------- We think we have freedom, but we're all just mice in a maze.... FYI: I stole all my pix off google! F+ PORN! Here is a shit-ton of porn by yours truly! I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably! ~~~~~How SHP does their unconventional WBS Prep!! (NO DRY METHOD)~~~~ ~~~~~SHP's highly disputed method of doing ALL their work outside of a flow hood or a Still air box!~~~~~ ~~~~~Troubles harvesting the side and bottom pins in your mono? Learn how!! Dunking included ;-)~~~~~

What kind of hepa filter is that. It looks pretty thin for a flow hood. Is it pleated? That is a serious blower for 80$. Is it new?

Awesome. Cheap filter, where'd you get it? Are you using a pre-filter?

That is a true hepa filter just very thin... its only 3 inches thick! The fan was purchased from a liquidator since the box was damaged. I guess kinda like a scratch and dent outlet for appliances. I haven't place a pre- filter yet but will likely just use a thin one as well...

excellent deal on the blower for sure. some hepa filters are not really designed for laminar flow. not saying it wont work but i have never heard of anyone using a filter less than six inches and pleated for maximum surface area in a flow hood that worked well. it does look like it is pleated in the pix so thats good. I would definitely think about stacking several pre filters. otherwise that style of filter will clog very fast.
