whiteish/green-blue on caps?
    #1780658 - 08/05/03 06:54 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

A friend of mine noticed once of his casings (50/50) was pretty damn dry, and despite the late stage primordia/pins he misted with some diluted water/peroxide.

Well shortly there after the caps got a bit of a whiteish/green-blue film on the top of them. The stems and surrounding casing were NOT affected. Is this contam, or is it simply the mushroom reacting with the h2o2 peroxide?

Thanks!

Is it thick like mucous ?
If it's like a thin transparent film then it's the viscid pellicle on the cap, which is a specific characteristic of the specie when a moist environment is present. Ps. Cubensis is a Hygrophanous mushroom, its tissue (usually the cap) changes its degree of transparency depending on how much water it has absorbed. Since it both absorbs water and dries out unevenly, this means that the cap will appear to be different shades of the same color in different places, depending on the tissue's degree of saturation.

My friend was able to wipe-off the thin layer of whatever it was. After wiping it off with a paper towel, it looked almost exactly like the other normal caps. The cap was not visibly rotting in any way, and the cap's flesh (tissue) was firm, and normal.
