Popcorn jars using coffee filters instead of tyvek?
    #1780427 - 08/05/03 04:00 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

My buddy has seen teks which use polyfil to protect the holes from incoming contamination, in conjunction with a layer of tyvek for extra protection.. His question is, can he use standard coffee filters as a substitute for the layer of tyvek? Will coffee filters allow proprer "breathing" for the mycelia?

They will work in conjunction with polyfill, but not alone.

shit man, I posted the exact same question like yesterday...

coffe filters will get real damp and start to rot on the inside of the jars, and on the outside, they're no where near as effective as tyvek

Not to mention that tyvek is free... just take a trip to your closest fedex dropbox and pick up a few envelopes.

Coffee filters suck -- they're too porous. Tyvek kicks ass, and it's free.

I would rather not use coffee filter at all. Ive had no problems with just polyfil thought, that should be enough.
