Florida Marijuana Reform. Unite! 88%+ Qunnipac 07/28! * 4
    #17795301 - 02/13/13 01:15 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Florida voters support legalized marijuana for medical use 88 - 10 percent, with support ranging from 83 - 14 percent among voters over 65 years old to 95 - 5 percent among voters 18 to 29 years old, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/news-and-events/quinnipiac-university-poll/florida/release-detail?ReleaseID=2064

Way to go florida!

Also,
If anyone is interested in being an editor for my facebook page: Florida Medical Marijuana (1k+ 10/2013; facebook.com/flmedicalmj HERE)

Just shoot me a pm .
___________________________________________________________________
Florida Medical Marijuana posts HERE.  A seemingly written account of the events this morning at the Florida Supreme Court regarding ballot langauge that could potentially put FL on its way to be the 21st Medical state.

Please Spread the word and get more Floridians to those ballots! Morgan is doing his part and we must capture that remaining % of signatures now because of the lag that is happening from receiving to verifying. Keep it up guys! We can't help what happens in the courtroom right now or what the outcome is going to be; However, we can make things right where they need to be if things are ruled favorably.. So lets focus on what we can influence.

You don't have to like the system to make use of it. Doing nothing at all is even worse then participating in a system that we all know is dangerously broken. Lets do our part. Thank you :hatsoff:

Also I will, at request, donate 10% of the listed price of my pendants to United for Care.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Talking about it and finding out all the facts is all well and good, but if letters aren't written to your reps (Whether you believe in the system or not) then your opinion is not officially heard and the pressure against representatives wouldn't be as great as it could have been.

Since WA and CO there is a huge momentum and tons of states are announcing their intentions of putting their weight behind MJ friendly policies now....Lets be one of those states guys!! I know everyone has their own reason/story and mine is a mix of medical/personal. I wrote my representatives and just got back a letter from the Florida House of Representatives

Representative Dan Raulerson, District 58
110 West Reynolds Street
Suite 204
Plant City, FL 33563-3379

He writes back:

Dear Sorry no name dropping

Thank you for your email in reference to your thoughts about marijuana. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from my constituents.

Serving In the Florida House of Representatives is an honor, and I will continue to work hard to serve you. You can access current information on House and Senate legislation by visiting the Florida House of Representatives website at http://www.myfloridahouse.gov

Again thank you for contacting my office, and please continue to keep me informed of issues that are of importance to you
Sincerely *Hand signature*
Dan Raulerson
State Representative, District 58

I believe this is a cause we can all rally on, and if you argue that writing or being active doesn't help: How do you think WA and CO passed such incredible legislation? Because the law makers knew that support was on their side! If law makers feel no one has their back or that not enough people care enough to vocalize such a huge reform...they won't help us.

I even found this link with an email set up all ready to go to write your legislators https://secure2.convio.net/mpp/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=415

I got that link from this site which you should also take a peek at if you will: http://www.mpp.org/states/florida/

Although it had the opportunity, the 2011-2012 Florida Legislature failed to pass a resolution allowing the citizens of the Sunshine State to vote for a medical marijuana law. Then-Rep. Jeff Clemens (D – Lake Worth) and then-Sen. Larcenia J. Bullard (D – Miami) introduced companion resolutions, marking the first time that medical marijuana bills were filed in both the House and the Senate. Had the proposal, HJR 353/SJR 1028, passed through both the House and the Senate in Florida, it would have gone to the ballot and before the people of Florida. The ballot question would have needed 60% support in order to become law.

Will the new legislature look to this issue with fresh eyes? Sen. Bullard has unfortunately been term limited out; however, now Senator Jeff Clemens plans on introducing medical marijuana legislation when the new session commences on March 5, 2013. Patients and activists in Florida should continue to press their lawmakers to support compassionate legislation: email your representative and senator and ask them to support medical marijuana legislation now! With nationwide support for medical marijuana at 83%, it's time for the Florida Legislature to consider this sensible and popular proposal. If you are a patient who could benefit from legal access to medical marijuana, or a medical professional who supports changing Florida’s law to allow for medical use of marijuana, please contact state@mpp.org to see how you can help.

I feel our support has been mainly underground (Perhaps I'm wrong)...FL is such a vital electoral point state that if FL falls to this Green Wave..all political parties will take this incredibly seriously..do what you can and help us take root here..pun intended. Thank you.

There's been referendums circulating Florida for the past 6 years. Even if it gets placed on the ballot, the chances of it passing are slim. I'd like to see where you got those numbers, too.

Lol Well thanks for the support...just keep an eye on FL . What state do you live in?..

Stats for Florida...not making this up. No one is saying this is going to be a piece of cake but I for one (Among many) are fed up waiting for some one else to do a job that should have been done a long time ago.

There is a bipartisan consensus on the issue with independents (74/17) and Democrats (68/20) supporting it overwhelmingly and even Republicans (46/41) doing so by a narrow margin.

Some people don't have a means to do so and that still doesn't help anything in this state.

i've been to florida, it seems they have a lot more problems than marijuana like most states. just saying if your only concerned about legal marijuana its most like more plausible to leave.

also leaving the state can be helpful for the state too and likely cause more immediate actions, if there is a massive exodus to colorado and washington other states will have to change because they will lose all their tax payers.

I'm not arguing that FL doesn't have a ton of problems..but as stated some people just simply do not have the means to take the easy road and move to a green state. In a recession there's not going to be any mass exodus, especially here where people come to settle. If you want something to be accomplished energy has to be exerted. Action has to be taken. Do you live in FL SurReality or just visited? I've lived here all my life.

i said i live in colorado. i have visited florida. i'm just saying moving is also taking action. and from what i have seen in florida, if you are trying to save your money it would make more sense to move than to stay in the long run anyway.

seems to me that you are leaning more and the do as little as you can side of "taking action"

Moving is a choice. One that is easily made if you realize that you don't have the money to do so. I am not trying to save money I am simply  taking a stand on what I believe in, in what ever way I choose (Which is more then a lot of people would do, simply smoke and forget the world).

And you are assuming a lot of what you think you know about my part in taking action in this movement.

If some one wants to move like you suggested then by all means move. This thread is for mainly those in FL and those who aren't moving in the foreseeable future.

yea sorry i digressed... just thought i'd mention there are other forms of action that might be better in a lot of ways. idk i feel like if i had zero dollars and lived in florida, i would end up in debt if i moved or if i stayed; although probably be out of debt faster if i moved...

but what do i know i live in colorado, i just smoke and forget florida exists :bongload:

good luck man

Thanks man. What you said is pretty close to the truth I'd say. If it was a possibility for me I probably would move to CO, or any medicinal state since as stated it helps my medical conditions. I am pretty jealous and hope to see that here

You're welcome to post an update of what changes have been implemented now, or how the state seems to be treating the plant and its smokers now in CO.

Florida, really??  From my experience living here [FL], I can't imagine this would fly now or ever maybe.  A pretty conservative bunch of folks 'round these parts.  I am NOT conservative and feel out of place.

I would love to move back to CO.  I lived there 15 years and miss it.  Soon, I hope....

There are conservative bunches of folks everywhere. Legalisation failed in Oregon because there is a high presence of conservative voters.
Meanwhile, Texas is also proposing a medical marijuana program.

Playing the devil's advocate, did that letter you got seem a little canned or like a form-letter response?  It kinda seemed that way to me.  Do you think your representatives even read e-mails from their constituents?  I am not sure how it works being uneducated on the routines of a political office, but I am thinking some lacky goes through the hoards of e-mails, culling the ridiculous, and then deciding which of the remaining the representatives need to see.

I would love to see marijuana law reform nationwide!  Maybe I need to write to my representatives, I dunno.

In my opinion he probably gets a lot of letters and has a set response for the type of request (mj legalization) and sends it out..it still might be his true opinion..it could be b.s..i could be wrong and it was an individual letter written by him (It was not computer signed). We may never know but at least by pumping letters it's like (In the nerdiest way possible) Goku's Spirit Bomb you all got to come together and send a force in control of making that change not just in florida but nationwide. Florida for me is hard to see embracing an all legal mj law...medicinal perhaps.

According to a recent poll conducted by Hamilton Campaigns on behalf of People United for Medical Marijuana, 70% of Florida voters support a plan to mend the state constitution to allow the medical use of marijuana.

http://www.theweedblog.com/president-obama-ag-holder-stop-war-on-cannabis-patients-replace-duffy/

This is sort of a more national scope but it does directly affect florida too so I included it in this thread.

By, Eugene Davidovich, Chapter Coordinator, San Diego Americans for Safe Access

Laura E. Duffy was sworn in as the Presidentially-appointed United States Attorney for the Southern District of California on June 2, 2010. Since then, she has waged a vindictive war on legitimate medical marijuana patients in her district.

Duffy has ordered arrests, prosecutions, and investigations of medical marijuana patients in clear and unambiguous compliance with state law. In addition, she has directly threatened elected officials and staff with federal prosecutions for passing legislation regulating medical marijuana.

Duffy must be removed and replaced with a US Attorney willing to work with elected officials and the community, instead of waging war against the most vulnerable among us.

Please take a moment to sign this change.org petition asking President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to remove and replace Duffy!

http://www.medicaljane.com/florida-senator-introduced-the-cathy-jordan-medical-cannabis-act-in-state-senate/

Florida Senator Jeff Clemens (D-Palm Beach County) has officially introduced Senate Bill 1250, or ‘The Cathy Jordan Medical Cannabis Act’, to the state Health Policy Committee.
Senate Bill 1250 would legalize the use of medical marijuana by qualified patients in Florida. By establishing a state-regulated system of dispensaries, patients will be provided legal, safe access to their cannabis medicine at last. The Department of Business and Professional Regulation would be required by the bill to assume the duties of regulating and licensing medical marijuana dispensaries and cultivation operations.

Senate Bill 1250 is named after Cathy Jordan, a long time marijuana activist from Florida who uses cannabis to treat her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. As I mentioned last week, Jordan’s house was raided shortly after a Miami Herald article announced Florida Sen. Jeff Clemens’ (D-Lake Worth) plan to introduce his “Cathy Jordan” act.

A militaristic team of masked officers with automatic weapons raided the Jordan residence after an ‘anonymous tip’, seizing 23 marijuana plants Cathy was growing for her own medicinal use. Although no arrests were made, the case is being sent to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

Unfortunately the list of "qualifying illnesses" is pretty strict..I have a lot of mental disorders and asthma but I don't know if I'd be able to qualify if I'm not on the list.
