I bought it today! Along with a 28mm f/1.8 lens!

Now I am going to combine my new camera along with my Canon T3i and make some cool films!
How exciting film is. Now, every time I watch a movie or show, all I do is analyze the camera shots.
.....
I can't wait till I analyze the Evil Dead remake, stoned.

Sweet Jesus how much did that set you back and how can you afford it? They ain't cheap. If you had the money for the body, you shoulda been able to spring for the 24mm f/1.4.

My good friend owns one. If you apply your photography to make money you can pay it off pretty quickly. There's the generic rave photographer who isn't going anywhere, or you can make some money and do photo shoots of "important" people. AKA CEO's, executive board members, large business owners, etc. Be creative, because that's a real professional photographer.

It was 2,600 new, including the 28mm lens. I can afford it because I work full time, I love my job, and I get as much overtime as I want.
I crapped out on the lens because the next lens that I want is about probably going to be a bit expensive.
I am looking at the f/1.2 lenses. I am hunting a lens that can give me impecable low lighting along with a low ISO. I can't stand any grains or noise in my photos. I would love to be able to shoot without any of that. Is it possible? It may be if I can find a really good lens.
But I think my best bet for that is many years down the road when I can afford myself the Canon EOS C300, which sells for about 16,000 for the body .

That's my dream camera.

Nicely said. I am looking to get started with weddings or small social events. After a while I may be able to go on to:

I'd like to own one of those 28/1.8's. Last year, I decided I would stick with APS-C because I have some glass that covers the wide end anyway, so I didn't bother trying to invest in a full-frame body. I find I walk around a lot with just a 50/1.8, which of course is more like 85mm effectively on APS-C. Sometimes, I'd like to go just a tad wider, back into 'normal' territory.

The trick with weddings is to do a couple for free. Find someone and say "hey you can hire this photographer but if you let me take pictures too I won't charge you and you can have some of mine". You'll need a photo album to show people so this is really the only way to get started and also make a few mistakes without fucking up someone's wedding photos.
I also suggest you get insurance for your camera. It's not very expensive.

Well, if you insist on doing free weddings, at least make sure they're your friends or family. It kind of sucks for other photographers if you start destroying the market from under their feet by working for free. It's nice if you're in college or do this as a hobby, but keep in mind that many of your competitors have to eke out a living this way.

Nice, I just got my 50mm F1.4 lens for my Pentax. I'd like a Nikon fullbody but no need to spend 5000$ or more on a camera body if you're not making money off it hehe.
You do it professionally RP?

Doing it for free is only one or two times to create an album.

Generally for free is to friends. Don't find random people to do free stuff for, they'll tell their friends "this dude will do it for free" and when you say "Uh no, I charge" you'll get blown off. Close friends get a free wedding, they're the ones who will say "I know an Affordable photographer who won't charge you 5grand for a wedding."

He will never get hired for a wedding if he doesn't have an album to show. He isn't "the guy who does free photo shoots" while doing one or two for free.
All you have to do is say, "I am getting into photography. I am trying to do ONE for free as I start up my business" and suddenly people won't be asking you to do free photography. This isn't a hard concept and the other photographer is still getting paid exactly the same as is he wasn't there.

Yeah, you only need to do 1 or 2 to be able to give people a preview of what they're gonna get. Then do 4 or 5 at a low price setting, and if you're talented and people like your work, work your way up. It's the way to go if you want to sustain yourself from photography. That and corporate work (portraits, on-site series).

Yeah there's a chance you won't get anyone if you randomly tell people you're doing free weddings. Or you'll get some people who can't afford a wedding anyway who willbe happy for free photography.
The best bet is to start with Close friends, to build your portfolio. Once it is built, if you're a decent wedding photographer (managing lighting with multiple light sources, boca, etc) then you can set up a website with a portfolio and charge people depending on how much they can afford. :p
I know how the wedding photography goes...
