i knew it. what is it? is it like dreaming while your actually awake?
i was sick with a really bad feaver once and i couldnt get to sleep that night. it could have been due to sickness, medication, lack of sleep. but i was at my friends cottage and hallucinated that there were these people surrounding me telling me to leave. that it was their cottage and shit. i was totally awake. it was pretty trippy. then i asked my friend if anyone lived in the cottage before and he said no, that his grandpa built it. so fuck those other people! lyin bastards.

oh yeah lack of sleep can cause both visual and sonic "oddities."

Well, for me anyway

when I stay up for a long time, I hear voices in my head.  They say the most innane phrases, and they're the voices of people I can't identify.  i love it.   What causes this?  I asked my dad, he said its because your brain is running out of neurotransmitters and sort of switches to backup power, which doesn't work as well??  I'm not sure, sounded like speculation to me.  Anyone know for sure?

usually my vision goes frame by frame. if i look across the room, it lags and stutters. and if i stare, it shifts and melts a little. some weed would go good with it, if you could stay awake after smokin it (virtually impossible)

I think its your dreamstate not wanting to be held back for so long - seeping into your waking state.. but don't listen to me - you asked for somebody who konws for sure and lol I don't know shit  - just my thought

These types of hallucinations for me have been pretty "dreamy" indeed - quite different actually from the things I see on psychedelics

try sitting (sit straight up.. don't start slouching or you could fall asleep..) in silent darkness.

You may start "noticing" some interesting internal "chatter" if you haven't slept in a long time

In Marine Core boot camp, when u first arrive, they keep u up for the first 3 days. and most of the time u are standing around looking straight ahead at a wall. I starting to see things moving around in those walls, and u feel really out of it. and u see things out of the corners of ur eyes (I call em tree ppl from my tweaking days ; or meth monsters) and i hurd the chatter strumpling is talkin about too.

On the third day of a meth experiment I had not had any for about 12 hours. I had been awake for 72 and was letting it out of my body. I was in my dorm room painting a miniature soldier. A guy walked into my room bouncing a basketball and asked if I wanted to go shoot a few hoops. I turned to answer and there was my locked door looking back at me. That wasn't the only solid hallucination I had ever had but it was the most real. I got a little shock out of it and it is memorable because of how mundane it was. All my other solids had always been of the fantastical type (gnomes, dragons, deamons, talking trees). I had several hallucinations because of lack of sleep that night. I don't recommend meth for staying up though.

Ive had lots of waking hallucinations after being up inexcess of 48 hours usually, 72 is really "out there". However, after around 36 hours i always have insane CEV's and rushing sensations in my head before the sleep shuts me down.

Staying up for those long periods can't be good for you.

I've had some after staying up for 48 hours. Not much, but things like seeing lights under doors where there was none. Seeing shadows. It would be interesting to stay up for as long as possible to see how "weird" things got. I have heard about people doing this and actually having conversations with poeple who weren't there...kind of like a datura trip. The interesting thing about that is that the person who you are having the conversation with is really just an aspect of yourself (like in dreaming). So I wonder if by staying up for days and having conversations with imaginary people, you might actually learn a thing or two about yourself.

I had some weird stuff happen when I hadnt slept much in a few days... a friend and I were going camping to use some mushrooms. At like 3 AM (we ended up not doing the mushrooms... weird environment, bad mindset), we drove around looking for open convenience stores to score some food and get our snack on. None were open so I drove back down the empty ass road towards the campground area. There was a roadsign on the right side of the road that was telling me that another street was going to join the one I was on at an angle. Sort of like:

It was so scary, it sort of went from that to a guy running across the street. Then on the way into the campground, I could swear I was driving over frogs... like they were hopping across the dirt road and I was hitting some.

Weird

No, it's not good for you, but there's no evidence that isolated incidences of prolonged periods of sleep deprivation are harmful to your health.

As for hallucinating, I've gone 54 hours at longest, I think. I've never had solid hallucinations. Around 36 hours I begin to get mild visual activity. In low light objects in the distance may seem to shift, so that I can't tell what I'm looking at.

As far as I've heard the hallucinations are usually brief.
