 dunking with pins?

a friend's mycologist colleague has just finished her first flush...although there are still some healthy pins left that haven't aborted (late bloomers)...the pins are still small (< 1/4th inch)...she wants to dunk the cake but she doesn't wanna kill the pins that are still there...what should she do? should she wait till the pins grow and then dunk? should she just pick off the pins and then dunk? or should she just dunk the cake without picking off the pins??
also is it normal for the cake to turn a yellowish off white color after the first flush??

the yellowish may suggets that a dunk is just what is needed. then again, it could mean the inside is now all seeded with anthrax....
dunking is safe even with pins, but keep it short. i'd say 4 hours or so, but whadda i no>?

Had to ask and this is as good as a place as any...what if the mycelium has a slight yellowish tint while its still in the jar? I thought that I read that was mycelium piss or old mycelium or something???

the yellowish stuff, in my experience, doesn't happen if you don't DIRECTLY spray the cakes. i think dunking should be just fine with a couple pins.

if it is yellow in jar...and it is yellow mycellium, it could just be water was against that peice of the cake while invitro.

Do not be suprised if those pins devlop rotten spots on the caps when they devlop . Just like misting to often when mushies are devloping , dunking will multiply the chances of such rot occuring . Try injecting sterilized water into the center of the cake with a syringe .

definetly dunk. also you might want to pick them anyway. they're probably on the potent side. might make for a good snack.
i usually just pluck em and eat em then dunk the cake. they usually pack a powerful punch.
