HP Touchpad....scared

here is my story, my mom knew that i was looking for a tablet and ran into the HP touchpad, shocked by how low the price was she bought it. I probably would have too for $99, it is a real sleek and sexy machine........
but then came the bad news, and the realization of that "if something seems to good to be true, it probably is". Apparently HP announced over a year ago that it was going to stop running support for this tablet, consequently causing the prices of the tablets to plummet. My question is, what exactly does this mean?
I have not even used it yet, its being mailed to me, from her. I was hoping someone around these parts were familiar with this tablet and could tell me just how screwed i am?
any info would be greatly appreciated. Most info i find on the web is from right around the time it was announced, nothing about how things actually ended up, in terms of functionality after the loss of support

Some of the major things include: The OS will never be updated, nobody will create new apps for it, and you may not be able to get any support for it if there are problems with it.
I think nowadays you could flash it to run Android, but frankly, if that's your plan you might as well just get an Android tablet.

I'm sure others will chime in, but I've used Cyanogen ROMS on Android phones before and they're awesome. I dare say he's on of the most well-known developers.
I'd give the stock WebOS a try though. While I've never used it, I was under the impression that WebOS had a cult-like following, and although small in number, its users were very happy with it.

i had a touchpad with it, its not super glitchy but can be if you are running an out of date version, check cyogens site to see what the most recent stable version is.
Theres also a community of people who work with OS, hp made it open source and might even be updating it i think. one bad thing is the touch pads camera sucks ass.
