Psilocybe's in a Compost Bin
    #1765903 - 07/31/03 11:54 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Hi all,

I have a 50 gallon compost bin 3 quarters full of home-made organic compost, with kitchen/garden scraps (100% vegetation), and have recently noticed some Ink Caps (Coprinus Comatus), growing on the compost when I recently opened the lid.

So I'm wondering if anybody can tell me if perhaps any Psilocybe or Psilocybin containing mushrooms would grow in such an enviroment.

Thanks for reading,

:heartpump:

Thanks psilocybinjunkie,

I'm curious as to how the compost would have to be sterilised but the Ink Caps grew no problem.

You could grow them outside in the compost with out sterilization. Just use an outdoor TEK. Although for indoor cultivation sterilization is key. Indoors there are concentrated mold and bacteria spores all over the place. Out doors mother nature balances things out.

You could just try making several quarts -- heck, a gallon or two -- of WBS or your bulk medium of choice and chucking it all in there and mixing it up.

NP.  At the worst, you waste some colonized grain and add more nutrients to your compost.

I gave my old (one flush left?) casings to a friend of mine who has a yard and really nice rich compost. He buried them shallow in the compost bin and he started getting fruits w/ in two weeks.
