picking mistake?
    #1776839 - 08/03/03 11:49 PM (14 years, 16 days ago)

well there were 2 lil fella's that bloomed early. i just picked them but one was rather thin and when i took it from the cake, it tore the mycelium a bit. will this affect the rest of the cake because there are about 50 pins on the cake since it's only the first flush?

You should be fine. Just be a little more carefull next time and maybe use an exacto knife to help remove early shrooms without damaging the rest of the project.

is twisting a good idea for most or do more people typically use an exacto knife type tool?

I don't use the knife to cut the stem at the base. It's just something that I can sterilize to use against the cake or casing so that too much damage is not inflicted. Some other device would work the same way, but a knife is what I use. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes I agree with Dan.... but!!! instead of picking them when there are other shrooms u should cut the cap off of it. This will give u more time to let the others mature!

kusssh...i don't follow...are you saying to cut the cap off while the mushroom is still on the cake? won't the stem start to rot??
