Cinnamon
    #1776610 - 08/03/03 10:32 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

The Cinnamon Tree, Cinnamon Verum, syn. Cinnamomum zeylanicum

Perhaps the best source of cinnamon is fresh from the tree. I grind up dried leaves as well as bark for home fresh cinnamon.

Why are you typing this way?

Yes it is a source of safrole and other sassafrass compounds, however I don't think it's a practical source.

I like it better than store bought cinnamon.

I thought cinnamon came strictly from the Bark?

How large does it get? How much light does it need?

I think it would be great to grow my own cinnamon (I like to chew chinnamon sticks, but they're pricey.) But am getting an apartment, so need low light plants.

"A nation's hope of lasting peace cannot be firmly based upon any race in armaments but rather upon just relations and honest understanding with all other nations...

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed... The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..."

A cinnamon tree will get very large if allowed to grow. It doesn't require much light, as i've had it in south east facing window and outside all summer and it does just fine in both places.

I don't know.

I got this specimen from a local herb farm, approximately 2 years ago.
