i think the fine verm would work even better...the coarse verm is too heavy and doesn't seem to stick to the cake as well...

Afoaf dunked and rolled in fine verm, and it yielded 30-40 pins per cake. However, most of them aborted, and it's a bitch/messy as fuck to pull off all them aborts...friggin' verm everywhere. He was lazy and got contams out the ass after his 1st flush.

DUH    didn't think of this  also, my cake has one really big guy growing (compared to the others) being over 2 fuckin inches now (such a big boy) but the other 4 or so pins are not even 1 inch yet,  so, when's the first flush gonna be considered over?  after the smaller ones mature?  what if i get more pins and then the cycle doesn't end?    der, can you tell i'm a newb ?!?! :nut:

^ I never EVER get sick of seeing that picture.

Definetly dunk between each flush and cover indry verm...I would agree that the finer grain would work better, more surface area to work with that way.

I would like the answer to this question as well. I have grown several times and every time on both cakes and casings, the pins never stopped coming. I'm never sure if one flush has ended or another one has begun.

right, glad someone knows what i'm talkin bout, dunk after HUH?

i also just read that pins can survive up to 10 or so hours of dunkin when small. can anyone confirm this? as so maybe when alot of pins are small i could dunk, but rolling in verm?? wouldn't that hurt the lil pin guys? also, do people re-roll after dunking between "flushes"? as doctors say "do you concure"? sorry, the KuSsH goodbye thread is making me a lil loopy , hehehe

Roll the cake in verm after each flush and be sure to keep the verm moist once it's on the cake. Many times (more then I can count) I've had pins and small shrooms survive a 24 hr dunk. (I never dunk less then that.)

i would probably take the tape off before i used one. that is if i had a syringe with tape on it. just my 2 cents. btw, magash, can you spare me some nuggs, those things look BEAUTIFUL, and my hookup just moved away. damn laws against mailing drugs! i hate the law!

Yep, there is no tape on them. One print=one syringe. I use them two ways. If I'm low on syringes I take one of the dark syringes and shoot one mil into a shot glass then take a syringe that has 11 mil of steril water and shoot it in the glass with the one mil from the dark syringe and suck it up. Make a normal syringe.
If I'm not low on syringes I use them like that. I love to use them dark and for the people who think there isn't a difference between dark syringes and light you're dead wrong. The dark syringes show white stripes in 48 hours while the light ones are normal.

a friend's mycologist colleague pasteurized some verm in the microwave for a few cakes...she used the verm straight out of the bag for others...she hasn't experienced any contamination yet...could be the koh samui's resistance to contams though...you should sterilize just to be safe...

If I were to pasteurize some dry verm in the microwave, how long would I set the timer for? I assume I would use the maximum power setting?

I think you just put it in a container with some excess water and nuke for 10 minutes or so then let cool and nuke a second time optionally.

Yeah my friends first grow he rolled a few cakes in verm without sterilizing, actually two of the cakes he had thrown outside over night in dirt and branches and such..then he brought inside, dunked for a few hours, then rolled in unsterile verm and put in fruiting chamber and had sucess. No contams. This was on a fully colonized cake by the way.

well vermiculite holds moisture really well...my guess is that it acts as a reservoir that feeds the mycelium around it...

Excess water keeps it from burning the verm and better helps sterilize it-I think. And the reason for rolling in verm is to "increase surface area" as I've read.

wet vermiculite holds moisture really well...it acts as a reservoir that feeds the mycelium around it...creating more pinning points...increasing the the surface area used for growth...
