Alcohol extract turned blue?

This is my first attempt to do an extraction with alcohol. I ground up 6 grams of shrooms and soaked the powder in everclear (190 proof) for 24 hours. Just an hour ago I strain all the liquid (through some pantyhose..) into a container for evaporation. I did add a little bit of filtered water to rinse off the pantyhose to make sure I didn't lose any of my extraction... After about 45 minutes, I check on it to find the liquid dark blue (it was clear at first with a brownish/gray tint). I've read everywhere that the liquid should be (and remain) an amber color. What is happening???

It has oxidized for some reason, if the water you added was cold, it contained oxygen, very hot water has very little oxygen. I'm not really familiar with everclear extractions though.

I did use cold water :/ Is it okay if it oxidizes?

It's ok but not optimal for potency.

I just read that adding vitamin c will keep it from oxidizing... I have no idea if this has an validity or not?

Well, two reasons. One - ascorbic acid itself is easily oxidized. Therefore, any oxidation which will occur happens to it first. Once it is eaten up, it no longer works. Two - there is a pH dependency to the oxidation. At lower pH (more acidic) the oxidation is much slower than at high pH. This really doesn't depend on which acid it is.
Vitamin C is nothing but ascorbic acid (C6H8O6). here the Carbon oxidation state will be +2/3. When it is in reaction, it will oxidize to C6H6O6. the oxidation state of C here is +1. So , it will favour the oxidation and prevents the oxidation of other reagents (psilocybin)
Pickin' up what I'm layin' down?

Thank you, i think I get it
So, how much does oxidation really affect the potency? It is now completely dark blue... should I consider this little batch ruined?

Paul Stamets - 1996 - book - "PSILOCYBIN MUSHROOMS of the WORLD".
Quote - page 50-51 "Another method I have seen is to soak crushed mushrooms in 75+% ethanol. AFter two to three days, the roughage can be filtered, leaving a dark-blue elixir that can be decanted accordingly. For every fresh 5 grams of mushrooms, 25-30 milliliters of alcohol is recommended. Psilocybin and psilocin dissolve into this solvent, and the alcohol also acts as a preservative. I really don't have much experience with this technique, but have talked to people who say it is their preferred method. Some call this "blue juice."

I own vintage copy of another book of his from 1978 called Psilocybe Mushrooms and their Allies bought it for 4$ from some myco book collector at the Mycological Society I belong too. He was tight
