how to innoc jars with tyvek ?

a friend has read about shootin spores into jars with polifilter lids by just going through the lid. but what about tyvek? does this work as well? or will it leave a hole for contam? does she have to unscrew the jar lid and raise the tyvek sheet? this is bad in her case, as her place is very full of airborne bad guys during these months, which is why she is so concerned.

Inject through the tyvek and put tape over the hole right after.

i just unscrew the lid myself, but then again i use a glovebox

if u wanted to, you could punch a small nail sized hole near the edge of the lid (ala PFtek) inncoulate through there, then tape up the hole.....

but if u are doing grain i HIGHLY RECCOMEND you build a glove box, then you can do G2G transfers without worry....
with g2g transfers 1 jar can become 60 over time...

example
Inncoulate 2 quart jars of grain with 4 ccs of solution each
once fully colonized, place one jar in the fridge and forget about it
take other jar and G2G transfer to 10 more grain jars...
once colonized use 9 jars for whatever
take 1 jar and do antoher g2g for 10 more
repeat X 6

finally dig up old jar from fridge, do g2g x 10
repeat x 6

wow thats alot of jars from 4 ccs of spore solution

First, unscrew the jar ring.  Then, while holding down the tyvek so it can't lift up, pull the lid and ring off.  Innoculate through the tyvek, and replace the lid and ring.  No need to tape the holes or anything -- you should innoc where the ring overlaps, about, anyway.  :smile:

two holes in the lid:

tape the small one after injecting through it.
