Apartment manager sending in pest control guys
    #17737305 - 02/03/13 08:54 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

So my apartment is having a mandatory inspection tomorrow for pest control purposes.  I don't have any pests in my apartment but I do have some cakes in a SGFC placed in my bedroom and multiple grain jars and petri dish cultures growing in my walk-in closet.

The notice mentions that pets should be placed in a kennel or closed off in the back bedroom so am I safe to assume that the pest guys won't be digging through my bedroom or should I go ahead and stash the SGFC in the closet?

Also, I have some slant cultures and a few sleeves of petri dishes stored in the fridge... Should I place some labels on everything saying some shit like "Shiitake", "Morel", "Portabello", or other similar labels?

I guess i could label some "E. coli" but that would probably cause more alarm than what is actually growing in my place.

Maybe I'm just being too paranoid... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do like me, change the door knob on your bedroom with one you need a key to get in. Can you put all that stuff under your bed just to be safe? The one time they sent the pest man in my place, thank God I locked my cats in my bedroom Bc when I got home my front door was wide open!

That's a fire code violation.

good idea.  Looks like I gotta head back to ace hardware to pick up a door knob(dunno why i didn't think of that before I went there earlier).

Think my agar will be okay under the bed till I get home from work?  Should I toss em in a trash bag just to be safe?  My slant cultures are in an insulated lunch pail so i'm not too worried about them.

No-one will give a shit about a bedroom door lock.

Well, I ended up moving the privacy lock that was on the bathroom door to the bedroom door.  Only bad thing is that you could open it with a butter knife fairly easily....

Luckily, I live in oklahoma so I think it's a safe bet that the pest guys will be too stupid and/or too lazy to try opening the door that way.

If anyone thinks this is a bad idea, then I'll suck it up and head to Ace to get a real door lock.  Thanks for the advice so far.

Growing in an apartment is a bad idea in general.

Really? All the apartments I've lived in have had locks on all the bedroom doors(multiple roommates). Regardless, kicking a regular old keyed interior door open is easy ( if the door is solid, luckily mine is). Had to do it a few weeks ago when I got locked out. It actually drove me to rethink my own security measures, really.

Anyways, I doubt the pest control guys are gonna be too curious about what's behind your doors, let alone up to date on fire codes. You should be relatively secure.

Well, it's not like I have any other option... It seemed smarter than starting an outside grow that has the potential for many onlookers who might get suspicious of the dude picking mushrooms out in a field(note: the only suitable growing location I have the means to get to is a field between my apartments and a strip mall).

I guess I could always move and get a house... Or just not grow anything besides approved edibles.

Oh btw OP, I don't have any grows going on, just some joints here or there but I do have a lot of books on marijuana that I hide when I know maintenance will be around. Just don't leave anything out in plain sight and lock yourbedroom door.

The pest man will be in your place all of 10 min if that.

They should also leave a note behind of what chemicals they used and how long before it dries and to make sure pets aren't licking it lol

You do have another option. Don't grow.

Are some shrooms worth your freedom?

Not growing in an apartment is much smarter than growing in an apartment.

While a landlord is required to give notice of intent to enter for MOST events, there are several where they do not.

Agreed.  And more to the point, if the landlord doesn't give notice and violates the law and in so doing obtains evidence, he can turn that evidence over to the police and it will not be excludable just because have broke the law.

Well, as i stated earlier, growing edibles would be an option (an perfectly legal) but thanks for continuing to go ot by offering unrequested advice.

Your words have been noted but i respectfully decline to heed them.

...And I thought this was suppose to be "Security and Safety" not "Pastor Bill and Preacher Bob's Happy Fun Time"... I'll think twice before asking advice again...

So people offer good sound advice... and you feel the need for smart comments?

I anxiously await your "oh my god I'm so busted " thread.

Of course you ignored the option of growing legal edibles and went on to tell me that I I shouldn't grow anything.  That's the kind of advice I would expect from my preacher, not from a shroomery member, hence the smart comment about feeling persecuted.

Obviously growing in an apartment is not a great idea but I'm a grown adult and I understand the risk.  I wasn't asking about my living arrangements because I already know I need to fix that.

I came here seeking the best advice for my circumstances and not to be taken to the gallows and judged for my life choices.  I honestly didn't expect the kind of welcome you offer.

"I anxiously await your 'oh my god I'm so busted ' thread"?
Wow, you are a dick.  I hope that bad karma comes back to you.
Thank you for the terrible experience.

You should learn the difference between "advice" and "criticism". It's obvious you don't know what the difference is.

I'm a landlord. I gave you good sound advice from that point of view. I'm also wise enough to know that people wouldn't come here asking... Oh No... my landlords coming... what should I do?", for edibles.

Look up "irony" while you're at it.

Also look up "grow a pair" if you felt persecuted by the advice given here.

You're welcome for the advice you don't appear clever enough to take.

Pro Tip: Putting someone on "ignore", then taking them off "ignore" to see what they say and also to reply to it, kind of defeats the purpose of putting them on "ignore" in the first place.

Don't you think???

Can't say it's been a pleasure.  Enjoy the karma.

And don't worry, I won't be removing you from ignore anymore since i'm done with this topic now.  Besides, you seem to be quite happy with your reputation of pissing people off.  What a sad, small world you live in...
