Humidity for straw/poo
    #1772832 - 08/02/03 03:01 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

A friend of mine wants to know if this would work for him. He has two 24 gallon(90L) rubbermaid bins. He wants to cover the bottom of one with a mix of straw, poo, and colonized WBS. Then fill the other with water and fish tanks heaters and place the first tub in this one for use as an incubator. He wants to know if when the time for fruiting comes(after casing) if the straw and poo will produce enough humidity on its own(with the lid on tight) so that all he will have to due is fan it every day.

What is his room temperature, i dont think incubation is really needed unless its really cold, the straw+poo will keep somewhat warm on its own. As far as humidity goes you should be fine if you fan a few times a day & mist it lightly.

His room is warm not cold. So then would he just need to cover the surface of it with saran wrap until the poo is colonized and take it off when it is cased. Then fan and lightly mist it when it is time to fruit, no temp change.

MY friend would still keep a loose plastic cover (green garbage bag) over the top of the container after casing, then just lift and fan/mist until pins form, even then only allow it maybe like 5 mins of light a day, on the bulk neglect they do this and its creates massive flushes for some reason.

heres a bulk idea ive been toying with, ive seen UNA do it from mush mush, and it looks great

what u need are 2 rubbermaids of the same size
take one, fill wiht bulk, colonize, case

then take the other empty one, and place it on top upside down to act as a lid (cut a hole and place plexiglass in teh bottem for light/viewing
drill holes in the emptybin/lid and string airline tubing wiht holes punched in it across the top.
hook up tubing to large fishpump (atleast 50-80gallons)
then u are done, mist casing for humidity!
yay!!

(i will be trying this some day.... someday......)

You have seen this setup work for someone? That sounds like a pretty good idea. I have the stuff to try it. So the lid would go on when it is time to fruit?
