Question regarding Cold Shocking
    #1772575 - 08/02/03 12:27 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Say someone just finished some casings. Covered them in tin foil and placed back in her incubator at aprox. 82 degrees F. She kept them in these conditions for aprox. 5 days until the mycelium started to poke through the casing layer.

Now she's ready to cold shock...

All she has to do is turn off her heating pad and the temps. go down to around 70-74 F.

Her question is this, how long does she keep the temperatures @ 70 degrees before she turns the heater back on to maintain the proper 80 degrees and humidity levels for fruiting??

Actually, you don't really want the temp that high for fruiting. 75* is perfect.

nooo! optimal fruiting temp is around 76 degrees.cold shocking should be done in a frig.much lower temps.make sure your casing is well sealed if you put it in a refrigerator.leave it there for about 24 hours then put it in your fruiting chamber

yes you are correct because mycelium gives off heat in those jars so 75 is purfect given that factor.

my question still stands, how long do you hold your cold-shock technique for?

a few degrees under or over optimal temp. which is 74-76 isn't going to hurt anything.my dogs fruiter is around 80 degrees sometimes cause it's summer now and it's out of his control.i've heard of fruiter getting as high 90 or so and everything was fine.
