my mom had it done and still has to wear glasses for driving at night and also for reading..so i'm thinking what's the point of it? if i were to have eye surgery, it better give me super vision in all circumstances. i'm glad those of you that have had it done are happy with it though.

Well, 18 years was enough for me as well.
Sadly, the procedure wasn't available then.

So you don't need to wear glasses all the time.

Doesn't happen that way. It's a downside of getting old.

I had eye surgery back in about 1995. Back then it was a more primitive technology called Radial Keratotomy (RK for short). From what understand, modern laser surgery versus RK is like a CD versus an old vinyl LP.
Here in the last year or so, things have started getting a little fuzzy again and I am thinking about going in for a touch up. I have BCBS insurance and they have a deal that you can get the laser surgery for about $800 per eye. There are other places that you can find good deals as well nd more insurances are starting to at least partially cover it. My personal opinion, TOTALLY worth it. When I no longer had to use contacts or glasses, it was like getting a curse lifted or a heavy weight you had been carrying removed.
Sit down and figure out how much you will spend on contacts, glasses, eye exams, etc over the next 18-20 years and you will find that lasiks is a good way to go. Only problem is I can no longer blame my bloodshot eyes on dry contacts. lol.

good thing about eye surgery is you get a legit reason for a medical cannabis card (intra ocular pressure.)
I haven't taken advantage of that myself... don't really smoke enough to be worth it, and my ocular pressure isnt bad.

I have a while ago and it works just great for me, couldn't be happier, but there are horror stories I have heard about it just making things worse years down the road.

I WANT LASIK SOOOO BAD! I can't wear contacts and smoke weed. Easy choice there. But I hate how glasses get in the way all the time and I hate being blind until I find my glasses in the mornings. I'd get it if I could afford it.

I thought about it but then I like the way I look with glasses, and I don't really mind the inconvenience. Maybe after a few more years of contacts I will make the upgrade (and hopefully it will be better tech, my eyes will stop changing prescription, and the costs will go down)

I got lasik done last year and I'm loving it. I highly recommend it if you can afford it. Mine was about $3400 total, but it comes with a lifetime guarantee. I can go in and get touchups for the rest of my life, no charge.
Takes about 15 minutes and you are out of the office. They give you a valium and some painkillers. Passed out for the rest of the day. Woke up, put in some drops and took more meds, slept for a while longer.
Woke up the next day and I could see sharper. By the next day, all the blurriness was gone. No more contacts for me.
I had reduced night vision and glare for about 45 days after, but it slowly went away.

It really doesn't hurt to bad. It's about like sleeping in contacts for 2 nights in a row. Really dry eyes. They numb your eyes with drops and dose you with valium. After it kicks in they take you into the room with the lasik machine (probably has a name, but I don't know it).
You lay down, and they make sure you are numb. Then they suction a ring to your eye. A knife or laser (depending on which kind you get) then cuts back a part of your eye. Then they fold back the flap and shoot your eye with the laser.
Then they put the flap back and move on to the next eye.
The time in the operating room is around 15 minutes. I was noticing positive results about 5 minutes in, and thoroughly pleased the very next morning.
I went from 20/400 to 20/20

I know medical shit is pricey, but like $3500-$4000 for a 15 minute procedure seems...like waaaaay pricey. Is there a legit reason for that, or is it just because they can?

I'm not sure if this is the truth, but it is what they told me when I asked:
All of the equipment is really expensive. It is a fine tuned laser that has to be precise enough that it not only doesn't burn through your eye, but can reshape the cornea.
They also had a bunch of other exam machines an;d a building to pay for. On top of that, their were employees and schooling for everyone. I'm guessing the doctor still makes bank, but I didn't feel the cost was unwarranted.
You could probably shop around and find a much lower price, but I wouldn't want to risk it with something as precious as my vision.
