casing with vermiculite only
    #1768421 - 08/01/03 06:21 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Many of you know that I'm having lots of problems with trich contamination after only 1 flush. In addition to implementing more stringent sterilization procedures (which I've made every effort to do), someone suggested that I should try casing with only inorganic material (i.e. vermic or perlite). I think this is worth a go and am thinking i will case my next batch with vermiculite only. Has anyone tried this and if so, would you be so kind as to let me know how you fared?

Even if you have not tried this, I'm interested in your opinion.

thanks -

J

i to have had problems with trich and i use coco coir for a casing layer seems work good, verm will work to.the thing about trich is it can attack or colonize (whatever)on the mycelium.thats happen to me good luck with getting rid of that shit,i managed to do it so far but i had to change alot of things including my fruiter.i don't fan nearly as much as a i did,i don't need to with the new fruiter.i even spraw the carpet down with lysol, use a hepa filter.so far so good.

knock on wood,i can't speak soon.LOL

You can case with verm but your yeilds will suffer. Verm isn't too good of a casing medium but if it's all you got go for it.

Why does verm cause yields to suffer? I thought the casing layer just provides water to the mycelium. I was going to case with verm so I was wondering.

I have first small xasing with only vermiculite. I was going to use 50/50 but when I went looking for everything in the garage, I didnt have shit. But so far the casing is going great, a little slow, but they seem to be growing rather fat and uniformly.
