what sort of shrooms are these likely to be?
    #1767361 - 07/31/03 10:12 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

In my friends garden (in the UK), growing in his lawn are small clumps of mushrooms that look similar to those in the pic, do you think it is likely that these are active mushrooms? I am going to get a picture soon but can anyone tell me how I can be sure if its an active mushroom or not without actually eating it?

also, none of the caps on the shrooms growing in his garden curl up like the 2 in the picture above (well i didnt see any but i didnt look hard), they all had flat caps like the rest of 'em in the pic.

Hey those look kinda like Psilocybe cyanescens but not sure. But they may be active. Is there wood mulch under the grass? Did they bruise?

i didnt get a chance to see if they bruised and as far as i know it is just a normal lawn... when you say "did they bruise" does that mean if i were just to rub the cap it should bruise the blue colour? also the gills or whatever you wanna call them under the cap were brown (i think :S lol we got soo stoned tonight so i can hardly remember :S)

Its difficult to tell without seeing the stems but they dont look like P. Cyanescens or any active mushrooms im aware of. Ask MJ he will tell you what it is and give you  a nice description too  ...

I doubt it, I have never encountered them over here but then again I rarely visit other spots than the ones Im aware of, read some of the safe-pik guides they will give you detailed descriptions which you can then use to compare to the specimens on your friends lawn, even better if you could get a pic and post it in the hunting forum. A lot of people there will be able to give you positive id's and will have a lot more knowledge on this species than I do.

Peace

The image is of P. stuntzii. i'm not even sure these grow in your area.

read the first three threads in this forum. they will tell you how to get started identifying mushrooms.

the only way to determine the edibility of any mushroom is to identify it correctly first.

if you are going to want help identifying your find, you are going to have to post a complete description. without one you picture will not likely lead to an id. also; posting a picture of another mushroom that you think looks like the one you found will not help much, but can confuse matters.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
