 Good books on the Hell's Angels?

I'm almost done reading "A long strange trip: the inside history of the Grateful dead" and want to read something about the hell's angels... What was that book where that writer guy travels with them and ends up getting beat up ? Is there a better book than that?

That was Hunter S. Thompson's, "Hells Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga."
It's a good book! 
Also Sonny Barger, former leader of the Hells Angels has written two books, and they are good quick reads for their side of the story!

I read Hunters book, it was very well written and painted a good picture of the Angels, but it was written 40 years ago. It really has nothing to do with what is going on with them today. I also read Barger's and Chuck Zito's books. They were ok I guess, but were hip deep in bullshit. These are real low life guys who talk about nothing but the bar fights they were in 30 years ago and how many judges they told to go fuck themselves.
I run into Hells Angels quite a bit at motorcycle events and swap meets. Trust me, for the most part they are nothing but very stupid and very bad people who are up to nothing but very stupid and very bad things. There is nothing glamorous about them.

My cuz supposedly whooped an Angels ass in a bar fight. I believe it too cuz my cuz is pretty ruff. Yea Hunters book kicked ass.
He painted them in a fairly good light.

Another good book is "Hell's Angels; Three can keep a secret if two are dead" by Yves Lavigne. It's a great overview of the history of the Angels and other biker gangs, as well as the open hostilities between them.

The 2 by Barger are entertaing, but over glorified. HST's is good too, but renounced by Angels for be being "mostly untrue". Unless I was there to see things for myself, I really don't believe either side's stories. I just read them for the entertainment value.
As a side note, even though the Angels have a bad rep, I must say that I see them in a different light than most, since I happen to know quite a few. I knew only what I was told or read, up until about a year ago. My stepfather has been ridin for years, and was in a pretty bad accident last year. He ended up almost losing his leg, and will be crippled for life. While he's been down and out, a few Angels he knew had a couple fundraisers, and ended up raising over 12k to help my stepdad with his operations. All the donations came from mostly Angels and riders he had never met. That shed a somewhat different light on them for me. Strangers he didn't even know helped out when he needed it the most.
Still, I agree that there are a ton of assholes and dirtbags, but I have a new respect for the many that helped out in the clutch.
