p. carulipes ????? No find just??
    #1763377 - 07/30/03 06:09 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Do P. carulipes have a nipple like growth on the cap ever???? The few photos I have seen do not.  I found a dryed up mushroom yesterday,  growing from decaying birch in New England.  The sun had dryed and somewhat mummified it.  The cap had a nipple feature right in the center.  It was 4 inches high and 2 inch in diameter well an inch and a half.  The color was sun baked glossy brown-tan.  The gills were a litlle puffy, I wouldn't say crowded either. Gill color= Brownish/red no spores left this one did it's duty.  I will be looking for p. carulipes all of august wish me luck.... No find um in New England........

i don't believe you'll se a mushroom that manages to release all of the spores. once a mushroom sporulates the gills will remain stained/tinted in the color of the spore deposite.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Thanks Mr. Mushrooms.. Well I may have a candidate for the p. carulipes.. will get back on that... It most definatly had an "umbro"...

Kudos, concretefeet... Then I would consider the sporulated gill color to be a brownish, rust. Need to look, but I thought P. carulipes was dark brown to purple... ??????? O.K. as always No_find_um!!!!

you are correct on the print color for P. carulipes [actualy dark brownish-purple to purple I believe, Mr. Mushrooms or another can correct me if that is wrong].

if you find a muhroom which is to dry even to rehydrate for a print you can use a slightly dampened cotton swab [verry gently] across the gill surface. this may only work on mushrooms with relatively dark print colors, or those who tend to produce heavy spore deposites.

it works sometimes on specimens which are not completely dry. you place the cap on the printing surface and add water drop by drop onto the center of the cap waiting each time for the water to be absorbed into the flesh of the mushroom. when the cap is saturated to about mormal moisture levels you can them proceed to print the mushroom as you would normaly.
