Yerba Mate?
    #17631643 - 01/29/13 08:28 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I have Yerba Mate after I quit coffee. I don't have a bombilla, so I use the teabag form

I don't seem to get the kick that I do with caffeine. It tastes great, but the alertness doesn't seem to be there

try it, even if you get it in the bottled form.

shit tastes good, a little like green tea but much more pleasant and palatable. and with a lot more caffeine.

the taste is worth it in itself. The buzz doesn't "kick" like coffee. Much smoother

Maybe its my tolerance...

Also the buzz has no comedown

Now that I think about it, it is probably caffeine tolerance. I feel that when I first started drinking it, it definately kicked. But I have 2 cups of yerba and 2 cups of coffee. Thats a lot when I think about it...

If you have it the way your suppose to, not with a tea bag, it works as good as coffee. It is an unusual drink though.
You take a gourd (or a cup) fill it half way with yerba mate. Let it soak in normal temp water for 5min minimum, you can let it sit all night if you can. Make sure there's only enough water for the mate to absorb it. Then put warm water in it, as much as you want to drink. Then drink!:dancer: and repeat until it's spent. That's the jist of it, I'm missing some steps so look it up on youtube.
The buzz is way better than coffee in my opinion, and less is drunk to get the effects. Coffee gives me a headache too.

I use mine in a coffee pot. First I throw 2 pieces of ice in a measuring cup put the loose leaf yerba into the reusable filter, pour cool water over the yerba while it sits in the pyrex measuring cup... allow it to chill in the cup for about 5minutes, then let the water drain and brew it like I would normal coffee. Works really well, also you can do the same thing with a French press. Gives incredible energy without any sort of come down. I use ecoteas organic loose leaf smoke free, they sell 5lbs for 36 dollars somewhere... If you want some really strong yerba Id suggest buying the gaucho fuerte that guayaki makes. That stuff works even better in a coffee maker and its easily twice the strength imo.

Psychoactive effect of yerba over coffee any day...

Its like a chilled focus vs the frantic, almost tweakiness of coffee.

I love both

For those who use yerba, how much do you put in your morning cup??

I think the issue is the amount I am using. It just isn't enough

I use a full cup per 12 cup coffee pot

with the loose leaf I will most likely drink the whole pot in a day. If its the gaucho fuerte blend more like half a pot.

I bought yerba in tea bags before and had to use 3-4 bags, and it was SO expensive that way! I also cut open tea bags and put yerba in them and retied them... That also didnt work to well. To get the most out of yerba, you should buy it loose and pick up a bombilla:thumbup: Or buy it loose and strain the yerba out...

This is the BEST contraption!!!! http://www.yerbamate.us/Ultimate-Bombilla-p/m.ub.htm

I buy my yerba on this site too.. They always have deals to try free quarter pounds with your order too:grin:
