ambien...again...health question

So I take ambien every night to help encourage me to sleep. I've seen so many people on here say I shouldn't take it everyday. So, is it really that bad for you. And if this is in the wrong section I'm sorry.

I took it every night for six months, and it make me a zombie.
For two weeks after I quit taking it I barely slept. Its been over a year since then and I can't imagine going back to the way ambien made me feel.
Its ok every now and then, but don't take it every night.
Taking it made my feelings numb during the day. It made me do strange things in the middle of the night and not remember. It made me miserable when trying to stop taking it.

I think the biggest risk is dependance and tolerance, zolpidem is not especially toxic to my knowledge but I am not an expert.
You'll need it to sleep, and over time you will need more and more to achieve the same effect and side effects will worsen: daytime drowsiness, sleepwalking, and potentially doing wierd/dangerous stuff while zombied out.

Try lunesta instead...

The worst that its done to me is it made stand on my roommates bed while she was skyping her boyfriend,I tripped on the computer broke it and feel off the bed. That's the only incident I've ever had with it, following my prescription. And aren't ambien and lunesta almost the same drug.

haahahahaha, the only reason I stopped taking ambien was because the sort of stuff I did on it made me scared for my future safety .
I would not recommend taking any sleep aid everyday for more than a couple of weeks - try and use it to correct your sleep schedule instead and take other more sustainable measures to make your body recognize that it should go the fuck to sleep at night(..I can sympathize with your problem). I've never tried melatonin while on ambien, but I've had great success with it otherwise. Get exercise during the day, get off the laptop at night(easier said than done), and even the tv if you can - reading really helps wind me down. Use the ambien as a tool to get your body on track, and then keep the rx around for those nights that you need it. That's what I'd suggest anyway.

15mg/day isn't a lot. I was taking 30-50 a day for sleep, and had no issues stopping it when I switched medicines. You're not going to experience anything like withdrawals. Possibly a bit of rebound insomnia for a few days. I'd just exhaust the current prescription and not get any refills in the future.

I believe Ambien works like most benzos do....and the withdrawal symptoms are very similar too.
Try cutting your dosage slowly over the next month or so, maybe even longer...I wouldn't stop cold turkey but that's just my opinion

Well I set up an appointment earlier today to take to my doctor about it. Going in on Feb 14, he said he'll probably try something different.

Ambien is not a benzo and only shares similarity in mechanism of action. It is true that you can experience withdrawals from Ambien, almost exclusively in long-term use of doses far higher than prescribed. Unless you've been taking prolonged, excessive doses there's no reason to believe you're going to experience withdrawal symptoms and no need to taper your dosage.
Fifteen mgs a night is well within range of a 'low' dose (my doctor recommended me to take up to 30mgs a night). So long as you have the willpower, you could flush them all now and be fine.

I know it's not a benzo but it acts similar to a benzo. Works on the GABA receptors....etc
