3 weeks old Ps.Azurescens BRF Cakes - Questions. (Pictures) * 1
    #17626608 - 01/28/13 10:22 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I did not go read the proper instruction on adding hard wood sawdust to the mixture on these ones. I have new ones made with BRF alder sawdust and vermiculite with some gypsum, they are only 1 week old in 2 days.

here is pictures of just BRF, Vermiculite and Gypsum.

Are you going to spawn to bulk or are you planning on trying to fruit these from the cakes?

I've been wanting to experiment with putting a couple of dowels into BRF cakes and seeing if I can't get some woodlovers to grow from them.

BRF is like grain and just about anything (for our purposes) will grow on it.

Maydai & Akmushi; you'd both benefit from replacing the verm, in your cake mix, with some kind of hard wood pet bedding.

I have a couple of questions about my cakes.

How long should i leave these growing?

How long can i approximately?, it's been 3 weeks yesterday.

Are these cakes even salvageable with this little mycelium growth in only 1 or 2 injection spots per jar?, Jar #3 only has small growth after 3 weeks.

I am wondering whats the best way to deal with these - Should i transfer them to there wood substrate in a week or so and start the process in the tub with casing layer or some agar on petri dish to clone it possibly so i don't have to use Spores to spread mycelium growth?

Hope i am making sense!
Any suggestions are good really, thanks.

You will need to devise a way to fruit them at lower(50 degrees F) temps. Some have suggested/succeeded with mini fridges hooked up to coolmist humidifers.

These are one that is best spawned outdoors to a bed of unsteralized hydrated woodchips.

They are annual I believe too, the mycelium has an enzyme that keeps it from freezing and it comes back year after year with fruits in the same beds.

Good luck indoors you will need some handyness to rig something up suitable enough to function as a fruiting chamber for this wood-loving cold fruiter.

I have read enough to know what your telling me and i also have a mini fridge that would do just great but i wonder if the cost is heavy.

These are going outside onto a nice casing layer wood bed i am making.
Instead of doing the tub with casing layer do you mean i should do it the outdoors way instead right away?, is what your saying?

I do have to have them indoors while they colonize the wood substrate for a couple months before putting them outdoors from what i read on a couple of sites, i am in a zone that this species will grow on it's own without any care after i colonize the spot anyways.

No dont inject anything into those cakes, just make a new batch of cakes and replace the verm with woodchips.

Otherwise id just set those current jars aside ans let them do their thing (slowly lol)
