Millet is a great substrate
    #1761930 - 07/30/03 05:34 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

It works fast!

All jars are fully contaminated after 48 hours! Normally I have to wait for days before I can throw them away.

I suck so bad at sterilisation. New clean fresh spores are arriving soon, so I'll have at least one syringe without green stuff growing in it.

I don't think your choice of substrate results in quicker contamination, you should really re-evaluate your procedure.

I'm not blaming the millet for all the bacteria I get in my jars. I get a lot of bacterial contamination because creating spore syringes from prints was the first sterile procedure I ever did, a year or so ago when I hadn't had any practice at it. I messed it up quite badly, and all but 1 of the syringes ended up with green slime in it. I used that up a while ago though, and for various reasons I never made any more prints that I could keep clean.

It just struck me that the contaminated jars were obviously contaminated within 48 hours, compared to up to a week with BRF.

It is good you are not in denial .........
YOU SUCK AT STERILIZATION ! That is most likely your problem .
Milo/millett is excellent choice for substrates , bulk inocs etc...
Try try again .
Grain should be sterilized for 40 - 50 min at 250*F at 15psi
Good Luck in the future
