crazy people?
    #1761538 - 07/30/03 01:58 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

when they do a test to see the brain activity of a "crazy person" they find above average activity in some spot of the brain right? im not talking about people who kill others or are violent or whatever. im talking about "crazies" who have normal atributes just like you and me, but are "crazy" well if they have more activity and maybe hear things or have "crazy storys" or whatever, are they really crazy or is it just that their brain is tuned better or something? get what i mean? something i've been thinking about for a while... :nut:

what kind of "crazy" are you referring to, lol....

A doctor doesn't just stick some diodes on your head and go "yup, he's certainly 'crazy,' look at these readings!"

Schizophrenics have lower brain activity in their frontal lobes (link), and I remember reading somewhere that the activity in their auditory centers is the same when they hear voices as it is for normal people when they hear real voices.

Maybe this can be interpreted as the amplification of electric noise at the same time as the areas that handle mental focus and judgement are shut down? No one really knows. If it's true it would enable schizophrenics to notice subtle signals that are filtered out by others, but how would they tell the difference between such signals and meaningless "homegrown" hallucinations?

CT & MRI scans can show various aspects of brain structure...
PET scanning (positron emission tomography) can give information on brain function, because the positron particles are emitted by brain cells (or other cells) as the mildly radioactive syrup given to the patient is actually metabolized...
and the PET brain scans of schizophrenics are definitely different from brain scans of "normals"...
fwiw...

Some/most schizophrenics also have large cavities in their brains, where in "normal" people the cavities are not as large.

cannibals have virtually no frontal lobe activity or so i hear. they check for it when cannibals get sentenced and their parole. experts can tell how much of a cannibal someone is by looking at his cat scans.

theres a japanese cannibal who ate his girl friend and got set free after 5 years. now he's a pornstar and quite the celebrity.

What about people who do cannabalistic stuff while screwed up on PCP? I've read articles about people freaking out and killing and eating others/eating parts of themselves. Wonder if that has anything to do with "regular" cannabalism?

Its off subject, but cannabilization definitely leads to brain damage, mostly by trigering an association of amino acids responsilbe for such diseases as Mad Cow and such.

Originally I believe cows were fed beef for a stint in England (for some reason, got mixed in, dunno) and voila developed what we call Mad Cow.

Some african tribes practice cannabilism and most members of these tribes are considered "not right" I guess you could say, and have varying forms of schiznophrenia.  Problem being diseases like said can be transfered from host to host (especially if ingested) and even burned remains of victims can be come airbourne with the disease latched on. No cure.

As far as how to judge "crazy" depends on what you call crazy and which standard you judge by.
