hey folks ive been messing around with agar for the last 6 months and had some flukey success i think. but i feel its time i know exactly what i should be doing.
so i have this plate where i just swiped some spores last week. germination happened after 3-4 days. now half the plate looks different than the other half. on half shows a thick uniform half circle of thick myc ( red), where the other half shows rhizo branching and sectoring (blue). Now what is more favorable? or do you just transfer both and see what happens?

i know this isnt advanced but man i will not get any help from the cult section since this isnt a cube.

hey man
ok , tranfer a small triangle of agar to another dish or 5 dishes, from the rizho sector.
if that happens again ( sectoring , one place rizho and not the other ) do it again , until you have uniform rizho growing towards everywhere.
after a couple of transfers, what you look for is a plate with all rizho myc , so you can drop agar into jars and clone the culture so won't lose it.

so dont bother with the uniform half circle growth ? ok so ive been doing it right all along. just wasnt sure what would happen if i transfered from that uniform growth spot. ive been transfering always the leading edges of growth until i get a plate with no sectoring, this seams simple for rhizomorphic species.
what about other types of myc, like cottony mycelium of non wood lovers ?

yeah , not the whole thing, try to look for a strong rizho thread and transfer that.
you can divide that circular spot of growth into several pieces and expand your culture.
well , it depends on the specimen , but usually rizhos are the thing you look for.
whats your formula for agar=?

MEA with a tablespoon of filtered hardwood chip water . so MEWCA I guess you wood call it. The final home will be in these chips so I want them used to it early . it seems to be working quite good for all the wood lovers i am playing with ATM.
