While all your advice here is good, I'd like to see a reference on that warrant / hand-written labels thing.
I have heard that both are "red flags," of course. And I suppose I can see how maybe they would be able to attempt a warrant based on an absence of a return address. Even that seems a bit thin, by itself. However, I have a very hard time seeing them being granted a warrant based on hand-written labels.
Mail with hand-written labels is sent all the time. In fact, I have received more than a few priority packages with hand-written labels. Lots. (And we're not talking about drug/supply "vendors" and these were not packages sent by individuals either... but rather various small internet-based businesses). I suspect that happens way too often for this one to even be that major of a "red flag" let alone landing them a warrant. If you have a good source that says otherwise, I'd appreciate seeing it.

Good job, OP! Now your shipping method is out there for all to see (and for the cops to document!)
#1 rule of any kind of source board (and I know this isn't one) is you DO NOT post shipping methods. It's a good thing your method is incredibly simple, and honestly not very secure.
I'm sure you get away with it all the time, but you just get lucky. You want your package to hold up to some scrutiny should it be pulled for a search. Obviously, if there's contraband and they look hard enough they'll find it, but don't make it easy on them.

This is not news to cops.
DEA microgram alert: Smugglers are putting mushrooms in boxes! Let's make sure the postal inspectors know about this!

Those links clearly show that this is suspicious. I think we already agreed on that point. But I missed the part where it says they can get a warrant based solely on that fact, which is the part of your comment that didn't sound right to me. If you could point out for me where in the documents it says this....?

I never said they could get a warrant based solely on those facts, however if the package has enough flags, they can get a warrant to open it.

Based upon experience and drug-trafficking intelligence, the United States Postal Inspection Service has developed a drug package profile for packages deposited in the Express Mail and Priority Mail. Profile characteristics include: (1) heavy brown paper wrapping; (2) heavily taped seams; (3) handwritten address label; (4) sent from one individual to another; (5) mailed from a zip code different from the address; and (6) a fictitious address. While it is uncertain whether any one of these criteria, standing alone, would support a finding of reasonable articulable suspicion, in various combinations these criteria might indeed support such a finding.
The package in the OP has 3 and 4, and if no return address was present that would be three suspicious mail characteristics. It is unknown how many suspicious mail characteristics are required to get a warrant to open it.
