Man it's been dry out here. Freezing at night too - for more than a week straight! But still the mushrooms persevere - well the more hearty ones at least. Found a few good mushrooms this weekend. Mostly the usual suspects, our variety has slimmed down drastically with this weather.
Amanita constricta
Still a few of these about, mostly in well shaded areas with retained moisture.

Agaricus sp. possibly Agaricus subrutilescens but I'm not certain.

Omphalotus olivascens Jack-o-Lantern

Some cool Cortinarius sp. - including this mutant with a phat-ass stipe!

Helvella dryophila

Boletus sp.

Ramaria rubricarnata var. verna (or something similar)

Trametes versicolor Been collecting a lot of these, and getting some good tea in the process.

Amanita phalloides

Chroogomphus vinicolor

And of course nearby, some Suillus pungens

Russula cremoricolor

Russula cyanoxantha These are about the only thing I was able to collect in any number. Those stout Russula can withstand some serious dry and cold weather. (For California that is... I know where some of you live my "cold" is like your paradise - )

Entoloma sp.

Oyster mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus

Inocybe sp. - perhaps something like Inocybe brunnescens

And an unknown, it seems familiar but I can't put my finger on it. Look familiar to anyone else?

As always thanks for looking! Should be much better things to see here in a few weeks once things turn wet again -

Nice update! Your unknown might be Clitocybe nebularis.

Looks like a decent fit. Too bad a cold has shut my nose down for the time being. I guess C. nebularis has a very distinctive "rancid" odor. I was unable to smell anything this week. That would have been a good indicator. Thanks for the input Blue-FunGuy!

Thanks guys, it was a nice patch! Anyone here actually like eating "Pine Spikes"? I find their texture too fluffy/squishy. I tried to eat them again the other night and decided I'm just not going to pick them anymore.
Although, I did read something about drying them first. I guess when re-hydrated they have better consistency. Maybe I will try that, and give them one last shot.

Let us know how it goes! I've never actually tried them for the same reasons, but I'd be interested to hear what the verdict is after drying.
p.s. I'm really enjoying your photos, it's great motivation to get back outside! I just started hunting this winter, and have been so anxious to find some chanterelles, but have had no luck but one half rotten one. Now I feel lucky to have even found that! Thanks for the awesome finds. ^_^
