I found horse shrooms finally at the barn where I board my horse. I was wraping my horse's legs because we were shipping out to a horse show when a patch of shrooms caught my eye. They were cubes, and a bunch of them! I tripped on some at the beach and dried the rest in the trunk of my car (had no other way, I was out of town at a horse show) So here are some pics.

Wow, I'm jealous!
Very nice beauties you have there. I see black in those gills too! They're friggen huge! Maybe I should find someplace where there are horses..
I would've been more cautious about eating them so soon, but then again, I'm just a newbie.
Great find

I knew exactly what they were...they have the golden top, grey/purpleish gills, purple ring, they bruised blue...they were cubes. If I hadn't known exactly what they were, I wouldn't have eaten them.

I found 3 more smaller ones today. Also bruising really blue quickly. These ones were growing in the bright sun and were a golden brown on top :-D Here they are. I'll also get a gill shot in a minute.

sweetn3ss. Yeah you'd be surprised how many horse fields have cubensis, especially if the compost heap is well shaded.

Found more today and a patch of about 30 medium sized pan subbs growing in the shade near he side of the main barn. I'm pretty sure they are subbs, thick stems and two white rings on the top with blackish brown gills and a white stripe around the bottom by the gills. I'll get the pics up probably tomorow because my camera is out of batteries. So I'll need an ID when I get that, but they sound like subbs don't they?

Wow, your horse find is very impressive. I haven't been having too much luck in the cowfields and I'm thinking about hitting up my horse pasture that I haven't been to in awhile. I read this thread kind of late though, we got more heavy rain today. If there was anything out there I'm sure it got soaked.

What are Stropharia mushrooms? Are they another active species? I didn't find any mushrooms in any of the pastures that the horse's go out in, I found them in compost (stuff picked out of the horse's stalls) that was spread in the grass and also in the grass behind the barn.

Stropharia is a genus of mushrooms, as is the Psilocybe genus. they both belong to the Strophariaceae family. Psilocybe cubensis was first classified as Stropharia cubensis until some microscopic (i believe) characteristics put it in the Psilocybe genus.

Are Stropharia an active species? Do they grow in the central FL area? I guess I should do some research, but are they active atleast?
