Trap lines
    #17601236 - 01/24/13 09:08 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Anyone else here ever run a trap line? I used to run one back in H.S. to make money. Thinking about starting up again.

Personally I find leg holds cruel in that they can cause great suffering.  I hold that any mature human wants to minimize suffering.  Conibears on the other hand,  if set right kill quick.

Yep, I've done it, but I found it to be more trouble than its worth.  I used to catch coons, possums, muskrat, mink, and fox.  There aren't any auctions around here anymore.  I've got about 100 steel traps and 15 stretchers.

A buddy left behind a box of new snares.  So I got a few dozen it looks like. This guy I know would trap muskrats in the swamp behind my house. I used to find piles of the carcasses. You go out there and its just waterways and cattails.  So many muskrats and ducks.  If i was to ever lay a line I'd check it religiously, I hate the idea of abandoned lines or animals suffering excessively. But at least I got a bunch ready if things get dire..

We got a lot of coyotes but they seem to mostly have mange. What are the prices for rabbits and coons like?  Beavers have been growing in population around here too.
