its great how this just slips by without a single response.
A lot of selective reading in this thread. That's how the game goes
Anywy just remember what the banks do is not that much our business. Our business would be to self-organize into competing functional systems, to be able to withdraw support from the current one.
Until we can actually crack that bit, no amount of internet outrage will solve anything. My models for this are couchsurfing, as a response to expensive travel/hotel costs, and opensourceecology. Whatever they're responding to, they are clearly organized, working and making progress on making more tech available to us all.
Most constructive thing is IMO for us to do likewise. It starts with some level of communal living, sharing instead of consuming more individually. Just ask yourself, what's the equivalent to couchsurfing, in terms of banks and currency? It's something along the lines of CS, and kickstarter, and other types of crowdsourcing, but we don't have it yet. Should obviously not be at all based on US $ nor any other fiat currency. Food for thought

Enough to end EXTREME poverty, not all poverty.
Either way the figure is telling. We all know the wealth distribution in the country, let alone the entire world, is fucked. However, its important to note that we're still in the midst of a global recession, few jobs have returned to the lower and middle class, yet the super wealthy either didn't take a hit, or made back most of their money in equities (since the "jobless recovery" has nearly rebounded the DOW to pre-recession levels).
What can we do? Vote. Protest. Influence your representatives in government. Other than that, the world's super rich have the keys to the vault.

who cares? it's Faith No More. wouldn't expect too much awesome bass, and just more of a catchy song. the song is sorta like this thread too. i think, anyway.
but yeah, bad bad bass. good lyrics, though.

Not true, it's very much our business. In fact, it's our responsibility as citizens to make sure we have a sound financial system, without corruption or fraud.
As taxpayers, we are on the hook for the banks behavior, that makes it very much our business.

Money is not the same thing as wealth.
money is a means to exchange wealth.
you can spend all the money in the world, but if there is no more wealth it is pointless and even actually hurts things by inflation.
what they need is a better means of production, not just to have money thrown at the problem.

really? in which era was this, under papa doc or baby doc? haiti fucked it's self because they wouldnt lower the tariffs, their consumption increased 8x since 1980 while the production remained the same. if it were not for us subsidized rice many more thousands of haitians would have died from starvation under the rule of duvalier
haiti has consistently been one of the poorest nations in this hemisphere for several decades, maybe you should read more than the propaganda you've been getting this shit from
Quote:
One day the US government institutes a policy which makes their job obsolete by importing subsidized rice under the price the farmers can afford to sell. The farmers go out of business, and communities based around rice farming suffer greatly. They delve into extreme poverty and can no longer afford to feed themselves.
the US cannot import to another country, the country has to import while the US is exporting it to them, the subsidies helped to save tens of thousands of lives in haiti... is rice farming more important than famine on a country wide scale? I guess it was ok though since baby doc was making million selling body parts from dead hatians

In a sense I agree. In another I would say the current system is so far out of whack, that only creating some competition to it has any real chance of bringing more stability, and a fairer division of work/rewards. Right now banks mooch off of everything and offer very little in return. The princes and nobility of old were nothing compared to the fractional reserve banks with fiat currency. It's a fantastic Wild Wild West of financial thievery.
See the rest of my initial post. We currently pay banks, governments and corporations for the service they render, which is organizing the 7 billion of us into functional production chains. Right now the price they take for this is astronomical, and this will only change when we find different, better ways of self-organizing effectively.

Try reducing the complexity of the quote within quote within quote etc. I've noticed the same thing if I have too many embedded quotes, there's a blank page instead the preview.
