1. my cakes are turning blue...what the F is this?

2. casing or dunking? whick is better?

3. i accidentally left some PF jars in the oven. the oven got to 300 deg b4 i remembered they were there. the jars were hot but i could touch them...r they dead?

1. They're just bruised :smile:  Not a problem, and its nothing to worry about.  If you've touched them/handled them they will sometimes get bruised and turn blue.

2. Dunk, then case.

3. If you inoculated the jars, they're dead.  If they weren't inoculated then they're probably too dry to grow anything on.

1. I guess it's worth asking - are they birthed and turning blue, or are they turning blue during colonization?

2. Dunking and casing are both worthwhile, just read the FAQs and you'll find info on both of these; asking if one or the other is better doesn't make sense since they're not two different approaches to the same thing, if you know what I mean.

3. Yeah, there's nothing to die in them if they haven't been inoculated yet. I suppose if they sat in a 300 degree oven for a while the water ratio may have been effected which could translate to no colonization.

1. they were birthed and turning blue. i put some h2o2 on it and it didnt change the color to white.

2. dunk then case? everyone agree? i heard one or the other.

3. i had put some jars in the oven to colonize (outta site) and i went to bake a pizza and remembered i put them in there...damnit...was 3 good jars.

any other advice? i do pure vermiculite casings.

you put pure undiluted hydrogen peroxide directly on the cake?? you probably killed the mycelium by doing that...
