It would be nice to have an industrial steam boiler, with proper safety features-- like auto shut-offs, failsafes, and relief valves. The steam is very useful for quick pasteurization of bulk substrates, sterilization of cultivation instruments and other equipment, and also for heating the grow chamber.
you certainly dont NEED a steam boiler but if you plan to farm on a commercial scale it would be nice to have...IMO
Check out this website link for ideas. You may find some of these items in other places or other industry suppliers like dairy or brewing and sometimes you can save money-- so shop around and good luck

yeah I know, but the pictures and descriptions are good.
You might find more stuff less expensive once you are familiar with the tools you need.
also, learn what you can from the home-growers here in the forum. They make excellent use of many household items to achieve the same results.
possibly you can build some of the tools you need from parts that are easy to get...???

How about building with straw-bales. It has great insulation properties saving on energy costs. Might even be cheaper to build if you DIY.

Great idea!
I have had this exact thought before! It would be the ideal construction for a temperature controlled chamber wouldn't it? I think with the high R.H. inside the grow room you'd need to use a vapor barrier on the inside walls though and probably use concrete mixtures instead of plaster for the finished surface to keep the bales from absorbing too much water. Strawbale buildings off this sort would make a great conditioning "cave" for cheeses or wines/beer as well.

hmmm neat idea.
Airdog, i know what your saying how expensive stuff is. your going to have to get creative as traveller has said. really look into roger rabbit. that guy has alot of brilliant ideas.
what species are you planning on growing? you may want to consider a more tropical species than P ostreatus that can tolerate warmer temps. I saw a beauty oyster farm around Playa del carmen when i was there 2011. i think they were growing pink oysters. i will dig up pics.

pink oysters are super cool and they need tropical temperatures to do their thing, we never see them where I live for that reason. Farms here concentrate on the ones that like 50-60F so we get a lot of king oysters and occasionally blue oysters

im checking what kind of plastic to use for the vapor barrier... IM planning on 2 ways of approaching a solution to this...
One would be build the straw bale edification and use some polyethylene sheet, to cover it as vapor barrier maybe even a think membrane like the black oones they use for ponds and stuff.
no roof just arcs where im putting black sun filter screening for diffusion of temperature and the ceiling more black poylethilene or some sort...
what kinda material they use¡??? im watching this very expensive plastic sheet... http://www.shop.insulationmaterials.com/Vapor-Barriers_c22.htm
maybe i can even use PVC tubing frame and cover it withthe plastic and it could work...

be careful, you gotta build something solid or a big gust of wind could sail away with the whole thing!

Hey Airdog I was thinking yesterday and it came it me!! Why even grow oysters? You have access to straw , have you considered maybe growing Volvariella volvacea ? I am dieing to try an outdoor grow here in the hottest months this year!
For you situation growing paddy straws makes sense.
A. you have the climate for almost all year growing B. its out door growing so to hell with a building C. dont need bags D. you'll be the only one selling paddy straws. E. not confined to a building if you want to expand F. dont need sawdust
the positives could go on and on.

wow that idea is awesome!! but is volvariella a commercial mushroom??? because this is a project to help poor communities to get additional income! and pleurotus is well established in the market..
I was even thinking on making a strong bamboo frame, and then use bamboo trinket and straw with mud for the walls, and insulate with laminate polyethylene sheet layer maybe 1mm.

well in asian markets it is apparently highly prized. rice growers, to supplement their income inoculate their rice waste and get additional income in the off season. it is ideal for impoverished people as it is ultra fast from inoculation to fruit. and if you have straw or other compostable materials from other sorts of farming its perfect.
stamets says" V volvacea to be one of the best of all edible mushrooms....The paddy straw mushroom is an ideal species for the low tech cultivation by rural people in subtropical and tropical climates. .."

Money and time, lots of both.
