And then he confirmed it again the day before the game.

Nice to see that Wes Welcher admits he's not a man though.

I agree when you put it like that. Pocket passers will still be around and dominate but the old mold will be gone. Super Athletic cross sport players have been hugely successful.  I think that read option will lose effectiveness in years to come though.

Calling it now. Manziel will be a bust in the NFL. dudes like 5'11-6'0 and 180 and has a noodle arm. You telling me I can be the prototypical NFL qb? Hes got a lot of developing that needs to be done.

Weren't you babbling incessantly in another thread that height for a QB wasn't relevant?  Yes, you were.

The running QBs are going to get hurt more often.  They are flashy and can certainly be successful but they get broken.  A lot.  They're going to get destroyed even more once defenses adjust properly.  And they always do.

Why would you say "see you in 3 months" if you didn't accept the wager?

Just because you didn't talk to a mod doesn't mean you didn't accept the wager.

When you say "see you in 3 months" you're saying that you've accepted the terms of the bet.  Duh.

when was the last time a scrambling quarterback experienced a "career ending" hit? it seems like people are always throwing this argument around, but i don't see any evidence of it.

lots of scrambling qbs have gone on to have long, productive careers in the NFL. frank tarkenton, roger staubach, randall cunningham, mike vick, donovan mcnabb, john elway, steve young just to name a few.

to me it's more like "well we think they'll get hurt and they don't fit the prototypical model of qb...so let's just draft that 6'5 sloth with a laser arm instead"

i've seen more serious leg injuries from immobile pocket guys getting their legs crushed by defensive lineman than i have from scrambling qbs. remember brady a few years back?

Why do you put career ending injury in quotation marks?  zappa didn't use that term, you did.  You're putting words in his mouth.

The other word you put in his mouth was "scrambling".  He's not talking about scrambling quarterbacks.  He's talking about running quarterbacks.  The only running quarterback on that list is Mike Vick.  And he gets hurt all the time.

A scrambling quarterback is one who uses his legs to gain yardage when nobody's open or when the play gets broken.

a running quarterback is one who has running plays designed for him and where his running ability is often factored into the offensive gameplan

Maybe not career ending, but Vick was out for a while with his broken rib cage.  RG3 was hobbled pretty bad this season.

I think it's give and take.  Being a more mobile QB means you do have a higher risk of injury when you're out and about scrambling.

But being a mobile QB also means you have less risk getting injured while dropping back to pass.

A lot of it has to do with body type too.

i put "career ending" in quotes because people in general like to toss around that term with regards to mobile quarterbacks...how they're so susceptible to "career ending" hits and whatnot.

and i get your description between "scrambler" and "running" quarterback, but to be honest mike vick would be a "scrambler" too with that definition. he's never had an offense based on his running ability, he's just a quarterback who happens to be very, very mobile.

that's why the whole kaepernick, robert griffin read-option style is such a big deal. because it's the first time we've seen a quarterback's running ability be a HUGE part of the offense. you could argue denver did that last year with tebow, but the read-option stuff was a very MINIMAL part of their offense, really. it was mostly iform, ground and pound shit with the occassional read play thrown in there.

and if mike vick is the only "running qb" on my list...then i guess he's the only one in the history of the NFL. because those are the best mobile quarterbacks in the history of the game lol. to me, they're all just scramblers.
