planning a trip to thailand in acouple of months with the GF. We have already planned to go see some ping pong shows, but mostly we want to do some laid back shit, see some culture, do some food tours and see some cool sights. gonna do the kwai river and tiger temple and phi phi island... can anyone recommend any more cool stuff to do with a lady friend thats chilled and cooool?

Check out some nice nightclubs to relax, find ones that have professional muay thai fights. Everyone just sits around on the floor, drinks beer, and bets and cheers as two bad ass fucking pro muay thai guys go at it. If your going to Pattaya beach, try the Sandbox bar, or Fantasy (If they are still there.) I'm thinking of a trip to Pattaya in about a year.

from what i hear just stay away from drugs.
My friend was telling me some shitty hororstories about his stay in thailand.
He was there to visit family for holidays, and said he wouldn't go if it wasnt for them.

yeah we dont really want to do too much partying, more check out some chill sights and stuff. heard the boxing stuff was sick to check out, so thats on the cards. may do a beach party or so i guess, i know a couple of people who basically live in pattaya.

Well if at any point you feel like getting shitfaced get one of the thai buckets. It's a bucket filled with a can of coke, a 5th of rum, a shitload of ice, and a bottle of redbull (which still has ephedrine in it...) for something like $5-6
Eat the street food. Its incredibly cheap and generally amazing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khao_Sok national park. Supposedly the jungle hikes are amazing.
The Full Moon Party is a monthly thing thats supposedly one of the best parties in the entire world. Go like...5ish days before though otherwise the prices of rooms pretty much double and apparently online reservations tend to have minimum stay lengths.
The Chatuchak weekend markets in Bangkok. You're pretty much able to find anything here for really low prices....and just shop in general. Thailand is dirt cheap if you're lazy and even cheaper if you can haggle.
Take a water taxi down the river in Bangkok.
Apparently they make incredibly nice movie theaters.
Professional Muay Thai obviously
Travel around to all the temples Thailand has.
Take the day train from bangkok to chiang mai.
Try out the skytrains in bangkok.

Hookers= disease, smut, kidnappings and robber's.

You're completely full of shit. A meal from a street vendor in Thailand is like 3-5 USD. Its perfectly safe considering...you know...the fact that a LOT of people eat from those stands and don't get sick. You're just as likely to get food poisoning there as you are where-ever it is you happen to live...also why the hell would you buy food you know how to prepare on an vacation to a completely unfamiliar place? That completely defeats the point of enjoying the local culture.

Most of the islands are cool.
go to Loas and go to a town called Vang Vieng, its like a girls gone wild party town in the middle of the jungle that revolves around getting fucked up and tubing down the river, theres bars lining the river and the Loatians throw ropes out to you and fish you out. the restaurants have sidewalk menus that include many kinds of drugs in many forms and amounts. If your going to carry drugs, carry only weed and a small amount, and if you encounter any police just play the dumb tourist card, it gets you far.
Pattaya beach sucks, don't waste time there go to the Islands like Koh Chang, koh Samui, or Koh Samet. Long story short I had to run from the mafia at Pattaya beach, so be careful there.

I would recommend a cruise around the krabi (sp?), It's pretty much the area around phi phi.
I went on one for 4 days i think. We just cruised around all these beautiful islands with the standard paradise beaches. We went to a national park island on day too, saw loads of HUGE komodo dragons.
You can just sunbathe, swim, snorkel and east tasty thai food.
We also went to the island where the beach was filmed, it was completely full of chinese tourists and market stalls, so it was pretty shit.

Thailand is the place for pretty much anything. Guns, Drugs, underage sex, exotic animals, even humans can be bought there!!!!

OP, for a chill girlfriendtime I'd suggest a boat ride on the khlongs around bangkok if you're near. Visit some shrines, buy bread from the monks, feed the bread to snakehead fish from the boat, then visit some orchid plantation or whatever. To finish that off, go to some riverside restaurant, and if you're into that shit, eat a snakehead fish, completing some bizarre circle of life thang. Then the monks from the shrine will bake you into bread they sell to tourists. Just kidding.Probably
If you like cool looking buildings and history, check out Muang Boran. Also worth visiting if you're a huge Ramayana nerd.
Pattaya is nasty. Damn.
Falangs will be constantly offered to be taken to ping-pong shows and other entertainment of that kind, even if they're with lady friend. So you'll have no problem finding that. There are a lot of cabbies, especially of the tuk-tuk driving persuasion, who'll try to rip you off completely, but yeah, that's to be expected I guess. Use common sense and ask the price before you agree to anything.

Always ask for a menu before you buy a drink, to find the price.
This is especially important at ping pong shows.
Sometimes you buy a beer and it ends up costing 20$

Go get scuba certified now.
If you aren't already. Or get resort-certified or something, a basic open water cert is a lot faster and easier a process than most people think.
The fooooood. Excluding uncooked duck embryos(though I think that's more a thing in the Philippines) - Bangkok is known for being a wonderful world class food city, definitely eat your way through Thailand and try a bunch of new stuff..which is self-explanatory.
