Inconsistency

I was wondering if anyone here experiences this, did a set of rye jars 4 at once, all measured and weighted equally, when they were done I inoculated them all with the same syringe using the same spores.
Only 2 of the jars colonized? This has happened a few times to me and I was wondering what may cause this inconsistency of colonization.

This is a long shot and would prolly never be the cause of anything like this, but it's all I can think of, did you shake the syringe?

Lack of viable spores, or poor spore compatability would be my guess. The ones that colonized didnt get good spores, enough, or perhaps got none at all. (assuming they didnt contam)
Shake your syringe between each inoculation, and inject a bit more solution. I have had it happen before, and just re-inoculated, everything was fine.

That?s probably the case; I guess my syringe techniques aren't great. so far it's been a couple of weeks and the ones that have taken are obviously colonized, and almost ready to go, the others have absolutely nothing.
PS how often should I change the polyfil on the lids? This is the 3rd time around; you think that may be a factor?

Well, make sure the polyfill dosent get wet becasue cobweb really likes to grow on polyfill. I change mine after every use. Or at least soak it in alcohol.

It is quite normal to have such inconsistancies using the spore solution tek of inoculation . Gotta love agar inocs ....... I do ! Good Luck
