Cakes
    #1755606 - 07/28/03 11:17 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

So i slice up 3 cakes to spawn some straw with, and what do I find?? They were 95% white and colonized on the outside, but inside there was NO white at all!! Is this how its supposed to be? I doubt it.. shouldent the whole thing be white all the way through?! Well, I used 3 of them anyway for the straw, and Im not expecting anything, but it wont hurt to try I guess. So my question is, how can the outside be completely healthy mycelium covered, and the inside not be white at all?

that's the way it goes, bignose. standard PF tek, you squirt the solution round the outside, so the outside goes first.

i recommend a 5th hole in the middle of the lid, and waiting another week after the outside is all white.

yes, the inside should be all white. if you ever break one up and find uncolonised substrate, get rid of it before you spawn with it, as it'll be a hotspot for contamination - supernutritious sterile grains and could cause trouble.

do check out the www.fungifun.org pf for dummies link (anno's): it's the best version.

Very well could be a overly wet substrate.

They were 95% white on the outside? Shouldn't you wait until they are 100% white on the outside? Even then you should wait to give it time to grow through all of the substrate.
