Oysters spawn to Wood Pellets?

I heard a rumor that I can spawn my oyster grain to soaked wood pellets.
I live in an urban area, and am having a hard time managing my straw. 50lb bags would be easier to work with than bales.
Can't find good info. Really just looking for a substitute for straw.

I have tried on 2 seperate occasions with transfering fully colonized grain spawn of P.o. strain into non sterilized soaked wood with no success. Contaminating both times with triich rather quickly. I was using wood chips/dust so I'm sure that had an effect. I have not tried it with wood pellet and I would have to assume those have less contams than woodchips that had been sitting out.

Lipa pellet tech
Works for oyster. Better for lions mane, hen, shitake, etc.

my question would be, did u pasteurize the wood pellets?
I wanted to pasteurize them in a trough heated by propane burners. or a RUNAII tankless water heater... anyway...
that might be the source of your contam.
Is it possible to bring the wood pellets to field capacity, then pasteurize them like coir?

I grow oysters on hardwood fuel pellets supplemented with 15% bran. I sterilize, but if you skip the bran, you can pasteurize via the link above.

Yea, I feel like lipa's tek is the absolute minimum low tek tek you will ever get away with on pellets. I was skeptical that it would work until i tried it and now i love it. Yay for lipa. I believe that both jeff and java dog used it to sucessfully grow maiatake earlier this year which was really exciting But the pellets do need some kind of heat treatment.

Those are beautiful!
How much are you getting off each bag?

Try pasturizing the hydrated pellets for 1.5 hrs in filter patch bags. at around 165 degrees Keep it below 180 You will need a thermometer. And zero enriching. That should work fine for pellets. Keep the bags up out of the water. Suspending them above the water is effective. Let cool. Knock up.

We are paying about 6 bucks for a fifty pound bag of pellets. This will make about 100 to 120 lbs of sub once hydrated. I have no idea about yield versus straw though. Our five lb bags cost less than 2$ to make including the bag. Still costing out the electricity to cook them though.

That is a really good price. I see our tractor supply locally has that brand Ill have to see what they want per bag. Has to be cheaper than the crap I've been buying at walmart and home depot.

I'm sorry, are you saying the bags are filled with 5lbs of substrate for $2?
I am curious as to what your average yield is off each bag.
When I first read your post, I thought you said you were getting 5lbs of fresh mushrooms per bag.

The prepared bags weigh 5lbs. If you get one pound of mushrooms from that bag, you're getting around ~100% biological efficiency. I get anywhere from 1-1.5 lbs mushrooms per bag, which is pretty good.

Man that would be something. BE is the percentage of yield by dry weight. The bags have 2lbs of dry substrate and that plus the bag is costing me a little less than $2.00. Hydrated, the bags weigh 5.2 lbs. Versicolor is doing better at his yield. We are lucky to get a pound of mushrooms from ours inside. and another quarter to half pound outside weather permitting. But we have our crammed in really tight. in some cases stacked on top of one another
