Anyone try mixing Orbeez in substrate?
    #17539694 - 01/12/13 08:57 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Developed for agricultural use way back when during time of drout to provide water to plants. They absorb a massive amount of water and also go by other names such as hydro ball, water ba lz, and probably more.

Anyone mess around with these and try mixing them in their substrate after they have absorbed their capacity of water?

There are lots of times people have used them.
They are called water crystals in some of the teks.
Not an Advanced Mycology subject.

Not saying it's a good practice, just pointing out others have done it.
Just so the op would know to search a bit more.

Corrected version:
Developed to allow farmers to destroy the land with chemicals while having no organic material in the soil, which would hold water naturally if it were there.

In mushroom farming, we only grow on water-holding organic materials so something like that which only holds water, but has no cellular structure for the mycelium to digest would be counterproductive, as are the crystals, etc.
