Flyfishing for tailing carp. I have a creek nearby the house that is shallow where I can go and use modified bonefish flies to catch carp. It is loads of fun.

That's so cool dude. I love catching carp. I think they are one of the best fighting fish around. Great fucking idea. I would think a grub imitation might work also.

I've not gotten around to trying fly fishing for carp. My buddy, who I consider to be an adept fisher men, told me carp can "smell" you if you handle the fly too much, or you have stinky shit on your hands.

No, a tiny tied grub fly fished wet.

smaller, like a whitish grub. Just tie something small and grub sized.
I read a story once in Outdoor life. A guy was walking along a river and saw a ripe mulberry tree hanging over the water. As he watched a berry hit the water and something took it. It happened several times so he tied up something that looked like a small purple fruit and started taking carp on that dang purple fly under that tree.

I have actually seen this in a lake and taken carp on purple sucker spawn flies.

Wooly buggers are a definite go for carp I normally tie my own modified patterns but yeah it most definitely will work. Tie a small tuft of white rabbit fur in it helps in tracking your fly. Carp for their size can sometimes have a very soft take.

I grew up fishing carp in the Grand River in Michigan. No flies in those days. Molasses and flour.
One night we were fishing for cats at night and some guy sitting by us caught a 60lb carp on a dead minnow.
